I believe what you are calling 'black' roses are the *deepest* red you can get. They're real romantic and my GF loves them.

Red = Love, Yellow = Frendship, White = purity, Black = Wish of death. I forget what the pink rose stands for, but I have seen green and blue as well. These odd colors are done by freshly cutting white roses and placing the stems in vases with water and dye. The rose will suck the dye up into the rose pedals.
