I believe what you are calling 'black' roses are the *deepest* red you can get. They're real romantic and my GF loves them.

Edit: After research, it looks like there's more death feelings than good feelings about them (link below)...oh well, to each her own.

The color black has always been synonymous with death and mourning. It is thus the color of sadness and farewell. So, many people consider black roses to symbolize bereavement, loss and mortality. Since black represents death, many interpret the black rose to mean vengeance that may lead to the death of a foe. The negative connotations here are far reaching, and make the black rose the least sought after among roses.

But, a more positive meaning does exist for the black rose. It is true that black is the color of death. But death does not always cause mourning. It can also be the beginning of new things, a journey into unexplored territory. The black rose, because it symbolizes death and passing away, also indicates a major change or upheaval in the future.
In that sense, the black rose also means the death of old habits and the old order. It inspires confidence and enthusiasm by signaling the birth of a new era of hope and joy

There are several different colors of roses. Some are grown certain colors, while others are dyed. Each color has it's own meaning. Red = Love, Yellow = Frendship, White = purity, Black = Wish of death. I forget what the pink rose stands for, but I have seen green and blue as well. These odd colors are done by freshly cutting white roses and placing the stems in vases with water and dye. The rose will suck the dye up into the rose pedals.

Aaaahhhh....the flower of DEATH!!

Black roses are symbolic of death. Many people view black roses as an omen, but they can signify change or rejuvenation on the horizon, as some rose buds appear black but then bloom into crimson red. The meaning of black roses may not be understood or well received as a gift, so you should avoid this color if you are at all unsure of the recipient’s beliefs.
