An infant's skin goes through many changes. At birth, and for about the first week of life, his skin was probably very smooth and velvety and may even have felt a little greasy. After the first week, several skin conditions are common. Erythema toxicum is probably what your son is having. It is a benign skin eruption not related to any allergic reaction and will resolve on its own. Another common infant skin condition is infant acne. It can begin about 3 weeks old and last as long as 8 months. It is normal and doesn't need any treatment. It is generally believed to be caused by maternal hormones transferred just before birth.

Don't worry about it. Just before birth, your baby got a big dose of hormones from you. They'll be gone in a few days, every (well, most) babies get them. They won't bother him, he'll just be fussy because he's just been taken away from everything he knows and put somewhere else with so much going on!

How did the dog get access to a newborn baby? Anyone should know that a dog should not have free access to a newborn.

My baby was the same way. I stopped using washcloths on his skin because it seemed when I bathed him, the washcloths irritated his skin. Instead I just used my hands. It cleared up within few days. I also think it was the heat because he started breaking out when it got hotter. If he starts running a fever, go see a pediatrician.

Same thing happened to me,it'll go away. You can try baby lotion it could be dry skin.If its hot at your place it could be the heat to.The fussiness could be from that or the fact he is a week old, hard to tell at that age.

Could be a food allergy, or other allergy. Maybe the soap detergent, try washing his clothes and then letting it go through the rinse cycle another time. I would call the doctor, it could be a formula allergy and he might have to switch to another. Or if you are breastfeeding could be something in your diet. I would call the doctor and be sure, you don't want to have your week old suffering.

He has just been thrust into a strange world after being safe inside you for 9 month. His skin has to get use to all the pollutions in the air his system has to get used to your milk.Don't worry about it unless he does show definite signs of being uncomfortable. And Congratulations.

My son had this and I found out he was allergic to our laundry detergent- so I switched to the Target Brand baby detergent for his clothes.

It is probably from the hormones- he is losing your hormones that he had in pregnancy. If you have a concern though, it is ok to talk to your baby's pediatrician.

Good luck and congrats on your little guy!
