ok i wasnt specifc enough. i no what they are and to the first answer yes morter is flexible most tile morter has latex in it to give it flex. mastic is to be used for tiles up to 8x8, you can use it for bigger tiles but it takes longer to dry. morter is a thinset morter and usually uses the moisture from the surface to cure. i remember a vendor ( i work at menards) telling me it was because they set up differently, i think the mastic takes longer because it uses the air to help itself dry while the morter uses the moisture from the underlayment. is this correct???

one is paste-like cement made with powdered lime or brick and tar, and the other you get from various bonding materials that you'd use in surfacing, plastering, and masonry that is a plastic mixture of cement or lime, sand and water that hardens in place, used to bind bricks or stones together

I'm not sure I understand the question (the way it dries?). And, I'm assuming you mean using either of them in a tile (floor or wall) application.

But, mastic has a gum base that remains somewhat flexible after it sets. This is to allow for the thermal expansion and contraction of the surface tile is installed on without causing cracking of the rigid tile.

Mortar has a cement base and it is not flexible at all when it sets. It's great for cinder block walls, but not for tile subsurfaces.

Mastic is man made, mortar is mostly natural materials.
One is better than the other but that depends on the proposed use.
