Some of you are not getting the point. There are many times in the season that a crop circle can be made. Just after it starts sprouting, when it is green, as it is ripening...soo, why just during harvest when the crop is ready to come off?

It only happens when the aliens are feeling their oats. They have a rye sense of humor, even they barley speak English. They communicate by using a FLAX machine.

I'm not sure where you're getting the idea that crop circles only occur during the harvest season. They occur throughout the growing season, and in fact they peak during summer - not at harvest time.

And I would guess that it's because that is when the grain stalks are generally sturdiest (yet not brittle), and best able to handle being stomped on with boards, etc. Also, it's when the ground is dry enough to work on without getting muddy footprints all over everything.

Aliens from other planets only eat once every Earth year, so they time their trips here to coincide with Harvest time.
