I recently bought a baby bearded dragon and I have it in a standard 10 gallon tank with a screen hood. I bought a 5.5 in. Fluker's brand heat lamp. the softest wattage my pet store keeps is 50 watt. A friend of mine said a 25 watt would be the max for a 10 gallon tank. Will the 50 watt be sufficient? Or do I need to order a 25 watt or lower?

I am more than aware that my baby bearded will require more space. I would simply like to know if the 50 watt bulb will be too much heat for my bearded. thank you

First, get a bigger tank. It is impossible to acheive a heat gradient in a 10 gallon! It must be warm on one side and cool on the other. A baby beardie can be in a 20 or 30 gallon for a couple of months, but will quickly outgrow it. You need a digital indoor/outdoor thermometer with a probe end (most hardware stores or Walmart). The temp should be at 105F for babies at the basking spot. The distance of the bulb will determine temperature, or you can plug the light into a dimmer switch to adjust. A regular light bulb in a dome reflector works just fine--you don't need any fancy heat lamps. They also need 12 hours of UVB a day, also placed above the basking spot. the 50 watt is fine, just be shure that it has a shaded place to get out of the light and cool off
