I think what adds the "mystical feel" to an old growth forest is
how in tune you are with your surroundings. If you are a nature spirit (as I am) you can feel the life in an old forest that isn't visible to the naked eye.

ALL living things have souls. Old growth forests have tree spirits which have been around a long time, and have seen much. The old stories of fairies is probably a reflection of this fact.

Trees are alive and aware. They have seen us come and go. We could learn a lot from them. And even more from those in an old growth forest. Their wisdom must be immense.
And yes Fairies and Earth Spirits must abound
everywhere in an old growth forest.
And they are from the beginning.
Peace to all

i know what you mean - seems a shame there's so little REALLY old woodland in uk nowadays but twhat there is that i have seen has been spectacular...also seems to make a difference as to how far west you go in each country(i think they say going west you go deeper into 'dream-time' and the east is more 'awake'...i like both energies).
i'm reading a book at the moment that says the word Druid omes from dru - oak, and wid - knowledge and for me there is NOTHING more amazing than OLD oak....
ok - i'm off to hug a tree now! c ya!!

It's probably that movies impart that idea, that the air is probably cleaner due to the trees natural filtration of carbon dioxide, and that the trees are taller than you.
