I do use it, but I find it annoying that half the time there is an issue and someone has to come over to clear the screen. I agree, they should reward customers for their work.

It's true - something always ends up going wrong using those crap things. Then you have to wait for a Real Live Person anyways! Screw that. It's hardly a convenience, but I guess the incentive is to make checkout faster, so the discount, yeah, it would kindof defeat that purpose - muck up the lines, wait longer ect. What they should really do is get some more 15 items or less express lanes, or 20 items or less. Something like that. Those go pretty quick and you get the benefit of a checker doing what they get paid to do.

Yes, I use them most places if I don't have a lot of stuff. I use them just because they are faster. The only place I don't use them is at Home Depot, because theirs never seem to work ("please place item in the bag" after you put it in there). I'd say no to the discount, because then all the cheapskates trying to save 10 cents would use them and make the lines long for them. The time I save going through them is not worth giving up for a 1 percent discount.

A 1% discount is hardly worthwhile as it would be just $1 off a $100 shop

I use the self check out only because I hate the majority of cashiers, I really do not like putting up with a human. And why not get a discount we're doing their job.......

Yeah- not to mention that I always end up needing help because something isn't priced right, or it's missing a UPC, or it doesn't exist in the computer.
I usually get stuck behind the Mexican guy who can't figure it out or some old man who can't figure it out.
Seriously, discounts should be given for the inconvenience.

Yes, if I have a relatively small quantity of items, otherwise the cashiers can do the work since I'm paying the same price anyway.

a discount would be nice. i wouldn't complain about it. but i never thought about it. to me, they are doing me a favor if i can go thru self-checkout and get done faster. i only use it if i have easily scannable items, tho, so i'm out of luck if i have fruits or veggies or something like that.

Yeah I do, and if there was a discount then everyone would be using them and then the lines would be longer and I would spend more time there, so no.
