The FBI would need a court order to do it. And they could only get one by presenting evidence to a judge that the intercepts are needed. Section 214 of Public Law #107-108 allows the National Security Agency to do it for 72 hours without a court order. But, those intercepts are restricted to monitoring potential enemy activity.
Unless you and your friends have sworn "Bayat" to Usama bin Laden or belong to some other terrorist group, I doubt that any Federal law enforcement agency is listening to your phone conversations.

People need to wake and smell the dang coffee. The government does what it dang well pleases. There is a way around everything. It's called probable cause and every cop and fed uses it like it's peanut butter. It's not their life, so they don't care. You can thank the good ol' Patriot Act. Should be called, you are loosing your rights - act. Can't stand any of them. A waste of a skin that a burn victim could be using.

Most calls to the federal government offices are monitiored. Those that are within the united states will have a recorded announcement telling you that they are recorded. The federal government may also monitor your calls going outside the US to nations known to harbor terrorists or known terrorist groups in accordance with post 9/11 laws.

Do you know how many millions of phone calls are made every day? Who in their right mind would want to listen to them (not that the people in Governement are necessarily in their right mind) but no. they listen to overseas calls to and from known or suspected terrorists.

The FBI is not interested in your conversations. I believe that there is a system that can pick up certain words such as
"bomb", etc. Words that show an interest in terrorism and
terroristic activities.
