CAN you? Yes, SHOULD you? No. At least no to grapes. Many foods can be fed to goldfish and they should get a wildly varied diet, but sweet fruits have no place in a goldfishes diet. There is practically no nutritional value in a grape for the fish and the sugar serves no value to the fish either. Far better you stick to other fruits such as apple or banana.

I have never heard of feeding goldfish grapes! Are you sure the site you got the information from was a legitimate one? If so, then I guess I learned my one new thing for the day - lol! Well, since goldfish don't have teeth like we do, even a TINY piece of grape would be hard for it to swallow unless you "pulp" it first - in other words smash it to make it soft, then break of little tiny pieces!! Good luck to you and your fish!!!

If you take a whole grape, and slice it down the middle, you can give them the grape and they will eat the insides and leave the grape skin. It is good for them because it keeps things "running smoothly". They also love orange slices. For more about feeding Goldfish, check out the site in my profile.

EDIT: Don't give them tiny pieces, give them a big piece so they can take their time to scrape the "meat" of the grape out. Let it sit in the tank for a few days before removing it. He will figure out what to do with it eventually.

The same thing happened to me when i tried. I gave my goldfish a little bit but she didn't eat it...i then decided to make it even smaller and made sure ALL the skin was off. after that i tryed again...still nothing...finally i said well what the heck! i put a tiny tiny little peanut butter on the grape piece and guess what? my little fish ate it. I'm not sure if it will work for you. but it was fun for me to try..
p.s. don't worry it doesn't kill the fish or anything

Why grapes? or any people food for that matter?
What's wrong with TetraMin or something like that that's made for aquarium fish?
If you continue this practice you could end up with a badly contaminated tank due to the "rotting" remnants of whatever fruit goes undigested.
Anyway, what you perceive as your goldfish "looking like he couldn't swallow...and then spit it out"....
he was "tasting" the grape morsel and he didn't like it so he rejected it....he was probably disappointed you didn't give him a slice of banana instead.
I STAND CORRECTED!!
Apparently it's "ok" to feed certain "people food" such as some fruits to your goldfish.
I did a little research and, according to this site:
http://www.kokosgoldfish.com/Goldfishs%20Diet.html
"There are a number of fresh foods out there, you can feed your goldfish, sometimes they won't eat or like them. But since there is so many, they are bound to like some or learn to like it. Give them only as a treat, because uneaten food will polute your aqaurium."
"Peel any fruit or vegetable with a skin (such as; peas, apples, bananas, grapes..etc.). Feed in small quantities only."
Wow! this is the great thing about Yahoo! Answers....
ya learn something new every day.

It is okay to feed them grapes. Did you remove the skin? Could've been either that or simply the fact that they didn't like it. I have and had goldies who like different things. One loved peas, the other hated it. I've never really found I've had who liked lettuce. Some like the orange, while others like the strawberry. They're picky and have their favorites just like us. Try something else. Yes, like banana. They love them too. Any fruit or vegetable. They love them all in one way or another. Parboil tough veggies like broccoli and carrots, peel tough skins and don't feed iceberg lettuce.

of course you can. did you peel off the skin? They probably couldn't swallow that or the seed. I've seen pet stores feed goldfishes cucumber, oranges, and watermelon. :)
