Take a string, any string... it could be the string from a tampon. Put just the end of the string in your mouth letting most of it hang out.
Now walk around the kitchen saying nothing to anyone. If anyone speaks to you, glare at them and grunt.
Before long you will find that no one yells any more 8-16's at you.
Let me know how this works, OK?

I don't know what the slang means ,but don't quit asking questions ,always ask questions, your managers and the people you work with would rather have you ask questions then try and wing it .I can try to tell you a bit about the baskets ,at the McD's where I work the fry baskets are the ones that are just open ,the big ones. The nugget baskets are slotted ,narrower baskets . Fish have a basket that looks like it's flat and slotted so the fish go up and down. Crispy and nuggets go in the same basket. At my McD's the McChickens go in the slotted basket with the blue handle. Now thats where I work, yours may be a little different so make sure you ask, thats how you learn.

Don't worry, soon you will be the person training the newbies! If you don't know something ASK. it is ok to ask. Also you can ask before you go or during a slow period for someone to write down the slang and the translations, and then look over it at home.

Tell your manager you are feeling overwhelmed with the slang and you're confused about the baskets.
Ask him if you can "watch the other employes," until you feel confortable and understand the procedures.

make yourself a diagram and list of all the slangs, I worked there in the 80's and we used no slang, it is what it is basically. but things have changed.

Pull your supervisor aside and ask. Tell him/her you want to do a good job, but don't feel that your getting the training you need. Ask them to please explain your concerns. You'll be o.k. When in doubt on any new job, always ask. You'll be in bigger trouble if you screw something up when all that was necessary was to ask questions.
