because you may not be as active as you once were, do you find that the older you get, the less you want to eat? Does your appetite wane as you age?

My mom is a comfort food eater and she keeps saying she just isn't hungry but only eats because she knows that she should.

Age has nothing to do with my appitite. It is true that we don't need the calories. This is the main reason I would say for the weight problem we suffer. Comfort food to me is ice cream and chocolates and specials meals. Most of my friend eat healthy for the last reason in your question. You remind yourself that you need certain things in the diet to maintain good health.

I've heard it said that as you get older your appetite wanes. I'll be 70 in January and I'm still waiting. I could eat my way through Brooklyn and still look for more. I really have to try hard to keep track of what I eat and weigh myself every other day, but boy-the weight comes off like it's been glued on. I dont mean to downplay what your mother is doing, but I hope I get to that point some day. God bless you for caring so much about her.

I do my own cooking from scratch and often feed my neighbor and freeze the rest in small portions to heat up in a hurry. My appetite is just fine My treat is a few spoons of chunky monkey or cherries Garcia or a 1/4 chunk of a snickers almonds bar.

It is so easy to fall in that comfort food zone. Yes, we need smaller portions. I once had a wonderful aunt who said she never ate all she wanted. I would love to have her ability and be more like her. But I love food and it's very hard for me.
I certainly put a few pounds on because I'm not that so-called Aunt Lena. It's a shame we are too much in wanting that snack.
