People do work during the week and games are scheduled so soon after rush hour begins to ease. Most of the people like me have 1-hour or more commutes home, this not even including traffic time. During the weekend the stands are packed except on Sunday when people are in church. This is the Bible Belt, remember?!

Also, the South is all about College Football in the Fall. It's interesting that in a place where college football is KING people would bash the fans of Atlanta because they see the stands not filled to capacity during the playoffs. Yeah don't compare New York or any other northern city to Atlanta where college football doesn't mean as much. I'm not even a big college football fan but living in the South (born and raised) I have seen how people try to bash us for lack of participation. Baseball in Georgia is not #1, this belongs to football. I like baseball more but we all have preferences. People forget the fact that we are among the leaders in OVERALL attendance every year

And when baseball schedules our playoff games on wednesday at 2p, do you think that gets you a pass from your employer? I don't know where you work but mine doesn't give me that luxury. Braves games don't get me off the hook!

Yeah Sharon S, but I get tired of people making stupid comments when they don't even take into consideration all the facts. They just think we don't care and that's far from the truth.

Maybe as a fan who does care I am a little defensive of my city. I just don't see it the same as others do.

Not to mention the fact that Atlanta has become such a melting spot for transplants from other cities. Heck, theirs probably more transplants here than natives, so they don't really care about the Braves.

Another reason, which is big for me, is there is nothing else to do but got to the game. In NY or Chi you can make a day out of it. You can take the train or sub early to the game, hit the bars and stuff until the game. Then after the game you can go to more bars or somewhere to eat and hang out and it's all in walking distance.

In Atlanta there is nothing to do but go to the game unless you drive or bus around. You just sit in traffic for 2 hours, go to the game and then sit in traffic for 2 more hours to get home.

Atlanta does not have a reputation as a good sports town, and I can't say I disagree with it.

It's shameful that a market with over 5 million people can't sell out a baseball playoff game. Smaller markets like Minneapolis, Oakland & St. Louis have no trouble selling out playoff games.

There really is no excuse.

Maybe it hearkens back to the 1990 season when a minor league ball park in Las Vegas (capacity=10,000) outsold Fulton County Stadium.

The fans don't care - how many times have the braves won the division and flopped in the playoffs? they won one world series in 13 years of winning the NL east. That is why...at least partially

Playoff games in other cities sell out. They deal with most of the same issues you describe. I've always thought it was a valid criticism, but maybe that's just me.
