The Daily Mail newspaper claims that, the americans say Britian is losing its battle in Basra, when we're clearly not. I know believing the newspapers is wrong, but at every turn America is asking us to put more troops in, give more money..all the time having a go behind our backs.. America has my respect for growing so quickly, but its upsetting that, once great allies, now seem to be becoming mere accqauitances discussed in the newspaper as losing battles.

Americans aren't putting the British people down. The news media is bashing everyone who supports the efforts in Iraq. Hell they are even bashing Americans. I think your PM knows quite a bit more about what is happening in the middle east. I have always had admiration for the UK

These are the comments posted by the Daily Mail readers after the article stating US officials (not Americans in general) claim British have lost Basra.

Just get the boys out, it's a war we are never going to win. We shouldn't have gone there in the first place.

- Jacqui Weems, Southampton

Heroes every one. But why should they have to die for this monumental mistake?
Every 'Member' of Parliament who voted for this war should have to spend a day with our troops in Basra. The troops would be home in a week.

- Steve Penny, Ashford, Kent

One person says this- another says that - what the hell is going on 'cos quite frankly I don't believe a word of any of it. What we need is a completely independent observer to report, post haste, on the situation in Basra, Baghdad and Iraq as a whole. If it's getting worse, as some say, then we get out and leave the Iraqis to sort themselves out.

- Mike Randall, Worcester, England

It seems to me the British, like the American's are losing based on the lack of public support.

As far as the American people, we see the British as our strongest allies. We are brothers, and I believe our soldiers would fight and die defending the British as soon as they'd fight and die defending other Americans.

The UK has always been on the top of my list of admirable countries. The American people have nothing to say at all to put you down because quiet honestly everything you have done has helped the US so much in the past. The US and the UK are kinda like Big brother, little brother (whichever way around is up to you) but it's definitely just the media trying to get people to think in one direction in order to follow another direction.

Uh, I never heard that. Usually American newspapers are always talking Britain up. It is probably some obscure extremist newspaper and the Daily Mail is sensationalizing the facts

I would not but to much into what the media says. Those bozo’s tend to look at the negative and spectacular and report on that, anything else is not going to bring them the viewers or readership they want.

Having worked for with and around the brits’ I think they are great! And I’ve never met an educated person who hasn’t felt the same. That’s not to say I’ve not heard negative remarks by Americans but 100% time it was uneducated baboons looking for someone to blame for their own ills.

Um what sites are you getting this from? maximum sites I see are very hateful in the direction of something American(usually the folk who they have under no circumstances met and examine out to declare the hatred is US government hatred that's a load of BS) and have no longer something to do with distant places coverage. maximum are crammed with hateful very own assaults that are media stereotypes. I see foreigners on a regular basis and would inform you even while they are right here in the U. S. traveling or on organization they are very damaging and look disgusted (why they arrive right here nonetheless confuses me). Europeans and Australians are by using some distance the main hateful and that i'd desire to disagree with each thing you're saying different than for the Canadian ingredient. maximum Canadians i comprehend (and that i comprehend a number of in the U. S. living right here illegally) hate human beings.

I live in America and chances are our government is asking for money and soldiers is because we are running out. A lot of people here don't really support the war so I guess less people are singing up to fight. I'm not that sure if what I'm saying is really true, but its what I'm guessing. I've never heard anything bad about Britian.

I have nothing but great respect for the UK and the British people. And I sincerely doubt what you're reading is true, because the great, great, great, majority of American's wouldn't have the foggiest idea what you're talking about.

Americans hateful? No

You are leaving the area, I personally wish you hadn't gone, that wouldn't have given Bush even the illusion of world support. Of course he is pretty delusional.
Those newspapers are probably owned by Murdoch he lives to make up stories as told to cretins by cretins. Don't believe anything he prints.
Truly, most of my countrymen are too brainwashed to even know or care who is still in Iraq, half of them believe in little green men. When this bunch of lunatics leaves office maybe we can get back on an even keel.

I, as one individual American have never felt like we put down Britain. I think very highly of your country. I'm sure I'm not up on all there is to know, especially in politics and the war. I'm very sorry you feel that way. England is and always has been number one on my list to go and visit someday hopefully.
