Often I hear about a bug or an insect or a fish living in the boonies of the Himalyas and which no one has even heard of before but scinece has this obsession of preserving them. Remember the little fish which stopped the construction of an important dam? Many species of animals became instinct over a peiod of illions of years, the dynasaurs for instance, and it didn,t seem to affect the envornment any. can anyone imagine if ptyroductils were still flying around>

first of all I think you mean extinct..not instinct. And yes..it is perfectly normal for ALL life to become extinct...HOWEVER we (humans) have sped up the process to an alarming rate and we really have NO clue as to the effects it will have on the environment. We could very well be wiping out animals and plants that we have not even discovered yet or animals/plants we have that hold important cures to things such as cancer, aids, etc. Every animal has a special niche in the ecosystem and if we wipe them out before it is time for them to go..it can have catastrophic affects.

Well...I guess evolution determines who stays and who doesn't. but people are destructive and kinda give an unfair advantage with poison and chemicals. I personally love all the diversity of the animal kingdom. I enjoy seeing even a tiny new bird(new to me) when I go to the mountains.

The word is "extinct", and it happens every day. The passenger pigeon was a notorious case; there used to be millions of them in the central US. They literally got hunted to extinction.
