My boyfriend and my 2 kids want to move, we need to get away from our controlling families. I am looking for any advice on moving across country, how much to save up, a realistic time table, jobs and apartment advice and anything else that you think would help. Yes we do know the climate is different up there so I don't need advice in that fashion. So we want to move from Albuquerque, NM to Bangor, ME. Thanks

Glad you're coming to Maine!! It's a beautiful place to live, with a low crime rate.

Your best bet for advance information is to look at the local paper, which in this case is the Bangor Daily News.
Like most papers these days, you can see it on line.

I don't picture Bangor, ME as the most fashionable place in New England, lol. But there are four seasons here and it can get really cold in the winter. Maine is a beautiful state. The time you spend driving down can take anywhere from a 1-2 weeks depending on if you want to visit some of the places along the way. We drove from Ohio (where we lived) to New Hampshire (visit family) and then to CA (where we were moving). Road trips are a blast. We drove through Albuquerque on that trip and saw the most beautiful sunset of our lives. How much to save? I recall spending a good amount of money on tolls. I'd get one of those automatic toll things (EZ Pay or the equivalent) so you don't need to worry about how much cash to have. If you are traveling with your pet I'd book lodging in advance because not everyone accepts pets.

I've been to BOTH locations- & the BOTH have their pluses & minuses... Expect BIG "cultural Differences" from what you're used to; & it's probably going to be alittle MORE expensive than living in the SW... SO; save up ALL the $$$ you can, make SURE your car is new enough to handle the LONG trip & the New England winters; and go into your "move"- with a sense of "adventure" & an open mind. It could be the BEST thing you'll ever do- for you & your family! Good luck! :)
