We never used it. From birth we just put our son in his bed with nothing (he just wore warm clothes no blankets or anything), and we put him on his tummy so he could feel the secure mattress against his face and tummy and that was enough. With kids try not to let them do anything that you might regret later (a 3 year old carrying around a blanket???)
it is ok, its not going to rot his teeth like a bottle would, or misalign his teeth like thumb sucking. So just consider whether it is a habit you want your son to get into.

I have 4 kids, ages 28, 25, 22, and 10. My older 3 were babies back in the day when putting babies to sleep on their tummies covered with blankets was the norm. They are all perfectly healthy adults now. My 10 year old was a baby when back sleeping was just becoming the norm, but keeping blankets out of the crib wasn't as stressed. I have also been a licensed child care provider in my home for 20 years so I have to keep up-to-date on current infant/child recommendations. A general rule of thumb is to put babies down on their backs to sleep until they are 1 year old. However, when they are able to roll over on their own, there is no need to flip them onto their backs if they put themselves on their tummies. While the recommendation is to not use blankets, I think a small blanket for him to rub against his face for comfort is not going to pose a risk to him. Many children develop an attachment to a "lovey" when they are little. A special blanket or a stuffed animal to help him sleep is just fine at his age. While some babies younger and some older do die of SIDS, the greatest number of SIDS cases do occur in babies 2-6 months old.

Of course it's ok....We started my son with a blanky from day one...he's 9 months now, and continues to sleep with his blanky. He won't go to sleep without it at the babysitters house. I guess it's his form of security from home.

I think it would be okay. I started putting blankets on my daughter when she was about 2 months and she always slept so well with them. The trick is to give him a thin blanket, not a big fluffy one. It has a less chance of suffocating him if he were to put it up to his face. Hope this helps.

I would say so. My little boy has sleep with his blankie since he was 5 months old and still pulls that blankie around at night to sleep with

My son is also 7 mths. I don't give him his pacifier or blanket in his crib unless he is really restless. Once he calms down I remove the blanket because by that time he is normally back to sleep.

I know Im going to get a zillion thumbs down for this but I put my twins to bed with a blanket since they were a couple months old. "They" say not to put babies to bed with blankets, toys ect until they are a year old...but I have both in my twins beds. They also love to cuddle with the blankets more than anything.

anything to help him sleep better is okay, once they get older they usually will let it go. maybe you could use it sometimes, and not all the time. maybe when hes fussier then usual, pull out the magic blankie. my daughter pulled the blanket to her face too, but it was only sometimes, she let it go by her self

I would make sure that it is a small blanket that the baby can easily manipulate....and move away from his face....I use a clean cloth diaper. He needs this at naptime more than at night.
