Hi dear,

Most people who do these activities are not aware how the dear ones will feel. It will be better to say that they just ignore it. They are very well aware of the consequences but the reality is that plainly they cannot stop it. I mean they cannot help themselves in stopping themselves in consuming it. I appreciate you are taking steps to stop your dad.

I too had similar problem with my dad. He was regular smoker or drinker but never heeded to anyone until God decided to stop him with great punishment. He got heart attack and anyhow his life was saved. But he continued, within 4 years he got another attack but again he continued. But he got a severe attack after 2 years of the second attack and the doctor made it clear that you cannot survive the fourth attack. After this only he started to minimise the amount of intake or both smoking and drinking. Today he completely stopped smoking and drinks only in parties which means once or twice per year.

Sorry to say my personal experience. I did not mean this to happen to your dad. Making them understand will put trouble in relationship too. So you have play safely in advicing him to avoid these things.

If your father loves you very much then the matter can be done easily. Even though your dad is tough outside, you can tackle him using sentiments. Ya, this will work. You need to cry a lot to convince him, avoid talking to him and so on. Avoid in the sense you should act as if avoiding him. This will make him to realize the mistake.

If he loves you sure you can change him.

Well, it is not really possible to change anyone, throwing away the beer and cigarette will only annoy your dad. U must first talk and make a deal with your dad, that he can drink and smoke to a limit, as per quota, and check and take action as per the deal.

Hes an adult who can do what they like without restrictions but everything has consequence but you need to allow your dad to do his thing as nagging him to do otherwise will just put him into a frame of mind that will make him do it more and more its human nature.

ask him to drink more water early in the morning for better health. it will cure the impurities in the body for better living.. one day or other he will forget to drink beer and continue to drink more water for better.

I have a dad like yours... some people won't listen to you no matter what you have to say... they do it to themselves and don't care how it affects other people.. there's always hope though. talk to him and tell him how it makes you feel and what he's doing to everyone else that cares about him.
