When TWO, people are in love, committed,
responsible, honest, willing, communicative.
supportive and all is coming from the heart and
they are married, then 50yrs is a short time to be
married to one another as marriage is a life time
thing. I know as my parents were married 56yrs an
I have been over 20 and I and my wife will strive to
pass their goal as happiness will help us to do
that.

Really. Honestly. Why would anyone want this? Do you get a big prize? Are you happy being complacent? When a century ago it was common, women were property. Before that the life-span of people prohibited it for the most part and women were property then, too.
It's the 21st century. Sure, SOME people will do it and be happy. But if you aren't happy, or if you know your partner isn't, why the heck would you WANT to. The divorce rate is high in great part because people, particularly women, are actively seeking happiness. Living to be 80 with a guy who isn't with it anymore doesn't appeal to some women (and men, obviously.) What is so great about, "Hey, looka me! I'm married for 70 years!!"

It is entirely possible to have 50 year old marriages in the 21st century. I think that it is like any marriage both parties have to work towards the marriage.

Yes it is possible, but anything is possible. But being easy, thats a different story. Now a days, with the word divorce being thrown around alot people tend to look at marriage as a deal or no deal type of situation. If it works then great, if not, well, "nice knowing ya." I hope my marriage last 50 years anyways... =)

Why not?

I see in the newspaper everyday people celebrating 50 60 65 year anniversaries.
I think it is not impossible that people married since the turn of the century will stay married that long

I think not really, but only due to the age people are getting married at these days. My fiance and I will both be almost 30. In 50 years, that's 80. Sure people are living longer, but it's not a guarantee.

Yes, and I'm going to prove it. I'm only 2 months into my marriage... but I'm not giving up. I think a lot of people get married too young. Take time, make sure it's not a physical releationship, have realy things in common that you both enjoy. And most important, find someone with the same beliefs, morals and values as you. Someone who is heading in the same direction as you are and has simmilar goals. 49 years and 10 months to go for me!!!

Yes. My grandparents were married 48 yrs and some of my aunt and uncles were married 50 years. My parents have been married 36+yrs. I think it is still possible today if both parties are committed to their marriage vows.

"YES!!!" It's the fabric of our society!!! We won't be able to keep up this wayward way of living for much longer before our society simply emplodes!! It's time for the power of the family to come back into popularity, & for the producers of Hollywaood to find something else to make shows about than things that cause us to think that the grass is so much greener on the other side of the fence!!! The grass is just fine right here in our yard, thank you!!!
