I loved the football games and I was part of the Pep Squad. Someone go the idea to tear up pages from a telephone book into itty bitty pieces and used them as confetti to throw when we got a touchdown. They also used rolls of toilet paper as streamers. They threw this from the windows. The school staff was not amused. I laughed so hard. lol Good fun.

Although I had a few friends I was a general misfit. In my small rural school financial status and perceived class distinctions were held in high esteem. I didn’t realize until years later how superficial some of the kids were. Actually when I think about it, I was the well adjusted one.

I had a hard time in high school. The kids were snobby and clicque-ish. UGH!
My first day in high school was kind of traumatic because I couldn't find my home room. I looked everywhere and even asked people to help me. My registration said the room was on the 4th floor but the building only had 3 floors. Turns out the band room was my division room and it was on the 4th floor. I thought someone was playing a joke on me.

The memory that comes back the most is of being in our Grade 10 Science class when we heard a fight break out next door.
Up here in Canada all the science rooms are connected with a storage room that is accessible from both teachers podiums in each room. (Sort of like a huge butler's pantry.)
Our teacher took off running through this room to go to the aid of the obviously beleaguered teacher in the other room. By then the screaming and thumping was quite loud and intense. We started milling around in our room, wondering what we should do. The other class was populated by my older sister's class, which was made up of kids in the 4 year programs that were destined for blue collar jobs.
Our teacher came back into the room and used the intercom to call the office and said he needed the help of as many teachers as could come. Some of the football players in my class went with him back into the other room. By then it sounded like a riot being waged in there.
Well, long story short, all the other teachers showed up, an ambulance was called and the teacher from that class was taken away in it (bleeding profusely). We were told some time later (weeks later) that he would not be returning for quite a long time because he needed "extensive care" which we learned was psychiatric care.
I got the story out of my sister as soon as the teachers cleared out....it seems that the teacher took possession of a report that one of the girl students had done, and that he took exception to the amount (or lack thereof) of work that had gone into it. He slammed the report down on his desk, and started yelling at this girl student, who was only standing there crying. It was when he grabbed her by her upper arms and slammed her into the blackboard that the guys in the class erupted out of their seats and started pummeling this teacher. They ended up breaking his nose, and a couple of ribs. But nothing was ever done to them, because it was felt that the teacher instigated the whole thing and that he was completely to blame.
As a footnote to this story, by the time I was in Grade 13, I decided to take an intensive science and maths curriculum to close out my time in high school with extra science credits. When I walked into my physics classroom, it was this same teacher that was standing at the podium. All of my class mates traded looks of scepticism and dread. But the first thing out of this teacher's mouth was that he had been having intensive therapy since he left the school, and he and his doctors decided that he was ready to teach again. His final sentence on the subject was "I am better now."
An unusual way to begin a class. But it worked. And he was fine for the whole of the year.

A very tragic story that happened in our town that involved one of our fellow classmates who passed away. She and I were close friends back in Elementary and later we become acquaintances. She was such a great person and everyone enjoyed her company. At our graduation, it involved creating a float for our parade, in loving memory of her. She was murdered and would have graduated with us but unfortunately a young man had took her life away and has been punished for it. That is the most memorable memory from my high school time.

I have fond memories of walking to school and home with 2 friends during my freshman, sophomore, and junior years. We loved running through sprinklers on hot days. I had to move before my senior year. But I remember just finding it sweet to confide to my friends and they to me. It was a security knowing I could start and end my school day with 2 steadfast friends.
Sharon and Leslie, if you are out there, Hi, It's me!!

We were more into Basketball where I grew up. the county schools all wanted to beat the " city slickers " and sometimes we did. of course the rivalry stopped ( ? ) after consolidation of many schools.
personally never could root for the city school after the consolidation even when they won the State Championship.

I was on the football team for two seasons. During one game I tackled the other team's quarterback behind the scrimmage line. He never walked again. I went into the clubhouse, showered, changed into my street clothes and quit the team.

Meeting my first love in the coffeehouse up the street from the high school. It was love at first sight. We are still in contact, but don't see much of each other any more. He got so negative and contradictory. Not fun.
