I live in Hendersonville. It's a great area, about 30 minutes north of downtown Nashville. I have commuted to Nashville for the 6 years I've lived here and it's not such a bad drive. The schools are great- much better than most of the metro schools in Nashville. Housing is quite affordable, I think. You can still get a decent home for $150,000- or there are plenty of much more expensive choices. Lots of country music stars live here- the Oak Ridge Boys, Johnny and June Cash lived here, Marty Stuart, Lorrie Morgan, etc. It's a great place that is building up like crazy- tons of new shopping areas going in and new restaurants and a new movie theater is being built. There are several boat marinas, a couple of small beaches, some nice parks for the kids, historic houses to tour, good medical facilities and gas is about $.30 cheaper a gallon than in Nashville at about $2.64 right now. The people are nice. I'm originlly from SF, then Tahoe and Las Vegas, ad I LOVE it here!

In general the schools in the Greater Nashville area are pretty good. Nashville is a big city but is a SOUTHERN city so traffic equates to 30 minutes. Trust me! The people couldn't be any nicer just remember southern hospitality is about making people feel good. You lose that if you live up north or are from the north (sorry). There is plenty to do. You're moving south not to the artic. I would join a gym, book club, church (that's a big thing down there get used to it), something that suits you. There is a NFL team, NBA team in Memphis, college football and basketball all around you, and you're in an area that will have good concerts and exhibits. There is a really nice airport in Nashville and you're not far from Lexington, Kentucky. Knoxville/East TN is beautiful and Memphis is full of character.
I'm from Alabama, spent a year in Memphis, and now live in DC...you'll adapt.

If you like side to side restaurants there's restaurants everywhere. A lot of the people have a attitude there. You have to be rich to live there. I lived there for 40 years then I got smart and moved away. it's called little Brentwood because everyone there is trying to keep up with everyone. If you are poor you don't have a chance if your rich you will fit in perfect.
