The point of having more money than you can spend is to invest your money so that your money is working for you rather than you working for your money. Then, you can sit on your lazy behind and still have money to leave to the wife & kids like aq real man ought to.

You can secure yourself and your coming loved ones. That or you could do a lot of good by giving to charities and stuff. Help save the planet for crying out loud. There's a lot of good you can do with more money than you can spend in a lifetime. As long as you don't indulge yourself in frivolous things and keep your head on your shoulders, you're good.

I think it's a show of power. I think it's in many species to prove their dominance. Animals fight to see who gets to mate and carry on their blood-line with the female. Animals fight for territory.

We, as humans, though, typically have rules and regulations. We can't just kill someone we don't like without facing certain consequences. However, the more resources we have, the more power and influence we have. Maybe it's the same kind of animal-instinct that fights so hard for dominance in people who want money.

In every "civilized" area, there is always the cast of power mongers who want to be the top dog, waving their money or their prowess around. In uncivilized area, you have some gang or "Liberation Front" that is going around with guns or AKs trying to be in charge.

Animal instincts?

Maybe that also means that the idea of living in moderation or a humble life... is an abstract idealistic idea that is not so natural.

You can spread it around. Look at the richest man in the world (well 2nd now, I guess), Bill Gates. He's also got the largest non-profit organization in the world, donates very heavily to the University of Washington... If you had all the money in the world, you could literally pay and see people's faces light up with joy as you helped them!

I'd give a large amount to something that would make me remembered beyond my lifetime, such as an addition to a hospital, an endowmen to a university. This way I could do good long after I am gone.

One would hope that such a person would give a lot of money to charity, and try to make a positive difference in the world, rather than hogging it all.

No point really. You can't enjoy it when you're dead - but it must be great to know that you'll never need anything and that your children are financially secure. It's also a good way of showing off!
