You all might think I'm crazy, but has this happened to anyone else? I swear my dogs can sense that I'm pregnant. My chihuahua will not leave my side.. it's like he knows he isn't going to be the baby anymore really soon and he's trying to milk me for all I'm worth before the baby gets here. My Labrador just gaurds me constantly. She never used to come into my bedroom but now she sleeps by my bed at night, she's overly protective of me as well.
Anyone else's doggies act this way?

Yeppers. Dogs and cats both know because they smell the pheromone pregnant women put off. Some dogs actually become aggressive rather than protective.

I;ve heard of this sort of thing before but haven't experienced it myself. A similar story I have heard is about a women who's dog started acting crazy one night growling at her a bit and stuff like that. Then the dog ran at the women and head butted her in the chest, after that he settled down and was fine but the women's breast was really sore so she went to the doctors and was diagnosed with breast cancer. The doctor said that when the dog head butted her it detached the lump from the more dense tissue and if this hadn't happened she may never have felt the lump until it was too late.... ooooh freaks me out everytime I think about it

I don't have dogs but my cat is just like you describe. He will not leave my side. I actually think he knew I was pregnant before I did. On top of the smothering he whines all the time. Normally he would only make noises if I was in the shower and he couldn't find me but now he just walks around whining until I pick him up and show him attention.

Animals are funny sometimes.

My cat seems to sense something is different. It no longer sleeps next to me in its spot by my pillow. Its strange because right before he stopped sleeping there, I expressed a worry about what he's going to do when the baby is born and I plan on putting the baby's co sleeper in that spot. Its as if he heard me and just stopped sleeping there now!
Also, he no longer lies next to my tummy when I'm lounging on the couch, but I think thats because the baby kicked him a few weeks ago and it scared him!

Yup. My little pug sleeps right next to my stomach everynight. When I turn over, she moves to the other side too!!! But I think just the opposite of you. I think once the baby is here, the dog is going to ditch me. Lol She LOVES babies and kids!!

The night I concieved my cat started sleeping on my chest. Before that she wouldn't sleep even in the same room so no it's not weird. They do sense and protect. I loved it.

My cats did. They began to sleep with me every night. It's like they knew something was going on. I have very difficult pregnancies, too, and it's like they also knew I was feeling bad and wanted to keep me company.

I think animals maybe sense or smell a hormone we secrete or something.

I felt one of my cats knew something was different. She was the only 1 who would sit on my belly. She was the only 1 to feel my son move. Cats & dogs sense things, we just don't know how to explain it.

My great danes (2) keep nudging their heads into my belly wanting me to scratch behind their ears. My boy keeps whining and howling at me and he never leaves my side. Even sleeps with us at night.

As for my cat, she is out more often and sleeps right beside my male dane at night inbetween my husband and I so I agree that they know something is different.

My tabby cat acted strange when I was pregnant with my first. She started meowing a lot, and hanging around with me. Then she got ahold of a tennis ball and bathed it until it was fluffy and furry. Really strange. As soon as I had my daughter, she stopped.
