We are expecting our third child, and have decided on the name Gwendalyn. The a is important to us. However, in the baby name book there are MANY variations of the spelling of this name. I think we are going to spell it the way I typed it above, but do you think it would be better as one of the other versions, such as Gwendalin, Gwendalen, etc? I am going to ultimately decide, just looking for other opinions. Odd spellings annoy me, but with this being such an uncommon name there really is no "right" way to spell it.
Our other children are Miranda (aka Mandy) and Randal (aka Randy-the rhyming nicknames were not intentional). We have affectionately nicknamed our daughter Gwendy.
Future names on our list include Candace Kathryn and Malinda Darlene for a girl, and Russel for a boy.
Thank you for your time:D

I think Gwendalyn is such a pretty name, and I never hear it much. I think the spelling "Gwendalyn" is the best way. I've never really been a fan of spelling any type of "lyn" like "len" or "lin". Lyn has always been a favorite. Such a pretty name! Good choice!

Gwendolyn is the most appropriate spelling. Teachers appreciate kids who have parents who have demonstrated that they can also spell. But if for some reason you have to spell it with an A, then stick to Gwendalyn. The other 2 spellings that you listed are now veering into something that could lead to pronunciations different from the traditional pronunciation of Gwendolyn, which is, I think, what you are aiming for.

I think "Gwendalyn" is the best spelling. I agree that odd spellings can be difficult, for the child.
I love Candace Kathryn and Russell (2 L's)
My parents named me "Robbin" and I have always hated the name and REALLY hated the spelling. No one ever spells it right. In addition, when I was a kid, I was called "Ribbon" since I was thin.
Kids can be cruel. Don't assist the little monsters by naming you child something weird.

"Gwendolyn."
Nobody actually enjoys being named "Name and-you-spell-it-n-a-m-e." Tack an extra 'l' on to that "Russel," too...
"with this being such an uncommon name there really is no "right" way to spell it"
I disagree. Gwendolyn. It's a nice name, too.
Google says:
1 - 10 of about 3,240,000 for Gwendolyn.
1 - 10 of about 21,000 for Gwendalyn

I like it spelled with a 'y', I think it's the most common way of spelling it and it looks better for some reason. So, Gwendalyn and not Gwendolyn, that's just weird.

Gwendalyn in nice, but I prefer Gwendolyn or Gwendolen. Malina and Russell are very close to Miranda and Randal.

When I hear this name I think of it being spelled Gwendylin. I don't know, I think it's cute this way. You are right about this being such an uncommon name that you can spell it anyway you'd like without it being "odd".
