How do I get a degree in parapsychology, ghost hunting, paranormal investigations, etc? There is a big difference between getting a formal, advanced degree in Parapsychology from an accredited university and taking a correspondence, on-line certificate class to become a Ghost Hunter or Paranormal Investigator. You should first decide on what kind of program or certification you are interested in and why. For information about a career in Parapsychology we recommend that you visit the Parapsychology Foundation, Parapsychology Association and the Rhine Institute web sites. There are a number of web sites that offer correspondence training for Ghost Hunters and Paranormal Investigators. These can be found by searching the Internet. Another option is to simply educate yourself. Please visit our Book Page for our current recommended reading list, also, the Parapsychology Foundation offers a wide selection of video lectures and books.

No University will have courses in paranormal investigating. There is a legitimate science of parapsychology but even that is few and far between. Mostly they study psychic ability and do not investigate ghosts or haunting.

the average paranormal investigator/ghost hunter is just an average person who has an interest in the paranormal and just starts going out and investigating sites.

You can get certified by different ghost organizations, but that is not an accredited course and these are ordinary people who have gone to haunted places and investigated them and have there own beliefs and theories.

There are many places on line that offer home study courses, but you can do just as well by taking a camera, tape recorder, and if you want to invest in EMF meters and such and go out to haunted places and grave yards and come up with your own theories, as you will eventually anyway.

However the only website I can recommend is http://www.ghostweb.com/. Read their free articles on ghosts and paranormal and you can know what the average person pays to learn.

There was a time when several colleges investigated this (there were government contracts) but i don't think there are classes in it at many places anymore. possible none.

HOWEVER, it used to be possible in California to get a degree in the area you chose, whether they had a school for it or not. Doug Henning got the first degree in magic in the US.

Additionally, in most schools , you have to do different research papers as an undergraduate, then a thesis or dissertation. You could conduct your own research.
Because of Duke University's history, you might find more history on what has been researched in this area at their library than at other places.

i have found colleges on line who purport to teach this. Please be sure that they are accredited before you sign up.

haha thats funny. The closest you can get is parapsycology. I don't even know if i spelt that one right. And that subject is more on the skeptic side. I run a Paranormal investigation group in canada. I can give you a few pointers, but you should search the web for a group in your area....

Franklin Pierce College in New Hampshire offers a specialization in parapsychology with a psychology degree at the bachelors level. It is a fully accredited college.
Many other universities as another person already said allow thesis (at the masters level) and dissertations (at the PhD level) on parapsychology topics.
While they are not accredited Rhine Research Center
http://www.rhine.org
offers a six week summer seminar on parapsychology.

You might wish to look at the web site for the
Parapsychological Association http://www.parapsych.org it list the educational backgrounds of many of it's members.
Most people working in the parapsychology field have and suggest an education in a traditional science (biology. physics, chemistry, etc.) or a social science (psychology, sociology, anthropology, etc.) it depends on the approach you wish to take in studying phenomena.

Why do you want to go to school for a degree that will do you no good? Study any physical science and you will get all the education on the paranormal you can handle.

Sorry, that's not considered a real job. No acreditted university in the US offers that degree or parapsychology - they finally realized there was nothing to it. Nothing to investigate.
