I ignore them. They are insecure and want attention and I refuse to give it, and if I do, it's usually to point out something that makes them look like an idiot, like if they brag about what type of car they have I'll mention how many emissions there gas guzzler dumps into the environment everyday or if they talk about their house I'll mention how studies show that in today's market most of the people who recently bought homes will lose to them to foreclosure in less than five years. It usually shuts them up.

This is a sticky situation. You can do one of three things:
1) Ignore it and put up with it. =(
2) You can tell the person and risk offending them. Which could be good if you offend them, because then you don't have to hear it anymore or bad if you are the type of person who cares what people think.
3) You can just roll your eyes and be rude about it by telling them exactly how you feel in not-so-nice terms.
I have done all three...

People who brag usually do it because they have no real friends and believe this is the only way to impress other people. It is usally best to take them as a grain of salt. If in the situation where their loud and obnoxious and braging of course, it's best to try to change the subject, excuse yourself from their company (esp if ur at a party), if you trust yourself tell them exactly how you feel (slight warning on that last suggestion>carefull on the approach)

There's nothing that you can do about this, because that person has nothing good to say about other people or stuff that will draw the intention away from them. Let them boast on,they don't know much about GOD,and what he says about this type of behavior. You just keep your head up and live a better life without this person.Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!

1st option: Cut them off and change the subject. After doing that several times, they should get the hint that you don't want to hear them go on about themselves.
2nd option: If they just can't take a hint, just tell 'em the truth about how you feel about the bragging and hope for the best.

just tell them to shutup. no, actually do it. just sortof slip it in, like you would say "man, i'm so tired" but instead say "man, just shut up" with the emphasis on the 'up' then either walk away, or start the conversation on a completely different tangent (away from them). they will be completely astounded and/or seriously pissed off. it works though.
if they try and do it again, just look like you are sort of drifting away ...
OR
compete with them. this is fun. just try and better anything that they say. they will just end up in a mean bout of frustration.
you win.
good luck!

Ignore them: People mostly brag for extra attention, and if they fail to get any, they'll stop after a while.

Interrogate him mercilessly to make him prove everything he brags about. Point out the slightest contradiction and make him look like the asshole he is.
