The rubbish the kids are listening to now is all about killing cops and having children by multiple women. Am I the only one who worries about the negative effect this will have on this generation? I grew up on music that tried to encourage peace and brotherhood, where did all of that music go? I saw too much violence in the sixties and seventies in Dublin and recently in the Sudan, don't want to hear about killing from someone who doesn't know the true horror of death.

I hear ya! I'm kinda the same way. I love 70s and 80s music. I feel like allot of artists today don't have REAL talent. I don't really like rap anymore like I did back in the day.

Yeah, it started getting bad in the late 60s and has only gotten worse, of course that is my opinion. My mother says is started getting bad in the 50s and my grandparents (when still alive) said is all went to heck in the 30s & 40s.

Try Interpol, Ryan Adams, Iron & Wine, The Decemberists, Damien Rice, Muse, Belle & Sebastian, David Gray. I could go on, but I won't.

Nope. It DEF" ain't just you, dude.
Blame crap like American Idol & the current musical landscape of pop. All lightweight, vapid, disposable garbage.
If you wanna hear some great new rock being made, ignore the mainstream crap & look to indie rockers....that & the classic rockers will always be there to fall back on through every dumb pop trend...

i couldnt agree more. theres so much bullsh!t being spewed out from all the record companies its rediculous. i can;t stand to listen to the radio (exept the donkey show, 101.5 kfly out of eugene oregon, 2pm-6pm weekdays)
but its not all bad, as long as your willing to do some digging to find the good stuff. here are some suggestions
as for rap, yea its almost all garbage, but check out
Blackalicious (4000 miles, blazing arrow)
Jurassic 5 (a day at the races, whats golden, i am somebody)
People Under the Stairs(acid raindrops, san fransisco nights)
Sage Francis (sea lion, makeshift patriot, broken wings)
and then the rock sorta stuff (doesnt it seem like rock is becoming an enourmous genre??)
Modest Mouse (polar opposites, talking sh!t about a pretty sunset, missed the boat (they have SO much good stuff))
Billy Talent (the whole Billy Talent II cd is excellent)
Bad Religion (their last 2 cds are really awesome)
Rise Against (sweeeeet band, eveythings really good by them)
Flogging Molly (to youth, drunken lullabies, whats left of the flag)
Interpol (obstacle 1, stella was a diver and she was always down)
The Killers (mr brightside, for reasons unknown, my list)
Norman (blue and black)
Placebo (every you every me, pure morning, allergic)
The Sounds (living in america)
Silversun pickups (lazy eye, common reactor, melatonin, little lovers so polite)
The Suicide Machines (permanent holiday, new girl, i never promised you a rose garden,)
Youth Group (shadowland)
Against Me! (walking is still honest, pints of guiness make ou strong, sink florida sink)
those all kick serious ***, so DL some of em if you get bored.

Music's been crap for a long time. It's not about the passion anymore, it's all about greed, money and popularity. Rock and roll is virtually dead (rap or screaming, blaring metal. Take your pick)

I know what ur saying. Def Lepp is pretty hot (if you look behind all the rap and emo crap) and you get beat up for listening to "Pour some Sugar on Me" or "Rock On" (wich is doing good on the rock charts) and then you get pepole thinking they are all "gangster" I mean how gay is that! I think alot of musiic is CRAP! So just enjoy Def Leppard before u get beat up. (rubbing my head-OUH!)

Its a common agreement between my friends and I that good music died in 1998. Of course, this is just our opinions.
