America is a place where we value the first amendment, should we not be allowed to state our views here on Y/A without someone name calling and getting nasty..even the Y/A moderator. It's great when I hear people say that they are black and proud to be black...I should also be proud to be white..if a black person say's: Our people were treated horrible at the hands of white slave owners...I also have a view that says..TRUE...BUT they were treated far worse in africa where 99% of them were ALREADY slaves by black owners and it's my view their lives improved 100% by coming to America...and certainly their great, great, great grand children are 1000% better of than those left there. IS that RACIST???
WE need to have (As Martin Luther King said) a REAL talk about Race-Relations...it can't be ONE-SIDED! There is a federal law suit in my city to change the way a tax-payer sponsored slave museum is presenting slave history & the owners of slaves...MOST treated them very well!
Can we talk?

Nena...My first question was in response to another question...I asked a question regarding race and got my head bit-off. There is ANOTHER view on RACE in this country...Not some nutty KKK answer...one that is from what 90% of white people ALL say when NO one is around..then we act like Liberal-Giants from the 60's when a person of color is there...HYPOCRITES...I don't think black people want US to say one thing when they are around...and another when their out of sight...They are liars...we NEED to be 100% honest without FEAR that someone will call us a RACIST because we have a different view point other than the standard (PC accepted) liberal black view...WE must be heard...EVEN if it goes against the accepted view points of today's history books in our schools....even against the African American Studies Professors who are clueless and very anti-white people

ASKER...first thank you. I do think it's important when you hear "some" black talk about white-slave owners to point out the facts. Only Southern States had legal slavery...OUT of those few that did have it..only less than 1 tenth of one percent of the population owned slaves..most were just plain old poor white people...VERY few Americans owned slaves like Thomas Jefferson did...you get a sence that every white family owned blacks...NO where near the REAL truth...this must be taught...if we are going to think this we might as well say all black people rob and murder...not true...if you get my point. YET we hear the view all the time that Whites owned the slaves...white people did this or that...we need perspective on this issue

You have a very open mind and seem to be very analytical (in a good way). I think like that all the time, but the only thing is that I don't like to explain what I think to others because I'm sometimes afraid of what they might think.
Anyway, I think that what ever happens, is for the good, except for the fact that when many people make mistakes and effect the surrounding population.
I do think that the black population of the U.S. is much better than in Africa; but I also do think that the whites should not have treated the blacks and other races the way they did because that is simply INHUMANE. I think that the whites should have helped the Africans instead of using them.
I think that people sometimes have certain feelings that are sometimes "racist" because of history. I think that history is a vital role that plays in our society. I think that we need to turn to the past for some things, but then I also think that people need to move on with their own lives and leave it to life. I know some people who have experienced racism....they moved on with their life, but sometimes they do bring up their past of the horrible memories they have to live with.
I do think that people should have a "real talk" about Race-Relations and not be one-sided because if that actually happens, I think our world will be soooooooooo much better and not have so much hatred in their minds! (people will then understand how other people from other races will feel and maybe relate with their views).
***Really nice question...and great thoughts!

Wow. You do make a good point, and I commend what you are trying to do, but It is going to open yet another can of worms. We can not change the past. Racism exists in all cultures, all races, and no one will ever change that, unfortunately. I believe that everyone should be proud of who they are and where they come from, no matter what race they are. But, i am sure that for every slave that was treated good, there were 10 times as much or more that were treated terribly. No one should ever dictate ownership over another human being, no matter how good they treat them. However, I will not be ashamed of being white because white people once owned slaves. I have never owned a slave. What do i have to be ashamed of? I can not change what people did before my time, no matter how horrible it was. I agree that we need to discuss this in an ope manner where everyones opnion can be heard. I treat all people with equality, there are idiots in every race. I have close personal relationships with people of all races- I was married to a black man and have a biracial child. Do I need to feel ashamed of that? NO. I am not ashamed of walking hand in hand with my daughter. I love who I love, no matter their color.

You answer your own question I think...
Regardless of whether I agree with what you're saying or not, if we have to give you the freedom to say what you want, then you have to give that same freedom to everyone else, including those that would make snarky remarks instead of debating you rationally. That's the way liberty works, you have to take the good with the bad, as long as no one crosses the line into actual damage (libel etc.).
What you're arguing for, ironically, is the same thing that someone calling you racist is invoking for you writing what you have - political correctness...which is a fancy way of saying - I want the right to not be offended. It's a brilliant way to stop a debate on the basis of somebody being offended and in that regard, I agree with you that it's crap.
On the subject of slavery, I'm afraid I don't have the relevant facts at hand to support or deny your claims. On the subject of your first amendment rights however, I'll paraphrase "while I may disagree with what you're saying, I'll defend to the death your right to say it".
I just can't guarantee that anybody will listen or that they'll like it ;)

Of course - but can you claim to never have been nasty?
True dialogue is always possible. I don't come on here to attack whites or anybody - but even YOU, with your search for open dialogue cannot deny the nastiness that emanates from this forum towards blacks.
Ps - I am African AS WELL as an American - and NO, my country in Africa is not a hell hole.
Have you ever been to ANY African country??

God..This sounds like psychological abuse. Abuse can take different varieties as properly actual. Relationships are no longer basic and apparently such as you should love him. you should evaluate some form of counseling. i've got been there...while the undesirable moments out weigh the reliable...then it became into time for me to circulate away. i comprehend there possibly various blame to circulate around, yet all in all it is not suitable who's fault it somewhat is. What concerns first is that it is hurting you. a pal use to question me "How long are you gonna carry directly to that warm pot?". If it starts burning and hurting long adequate you will. reliable success!!!

Racism is something that must be intended, and since we cannot tell what a person is thinking we must never assume that if offence is taken it must have been intended.
There ARE real race issues to be sorted out, but they will never see the light of day while we spend all our time with the impossible task of trying to sort out people's hurt feelings.

These people probably treated dogs very well too! The point is people are not to be owned, they are not animals! What do you want a cookie? What do you want to talk about? How the men and women were taken from their home and forced to work on someone elses land for no money. Or should we talk about how they were beaten and raped? What is MOST to you? If Hitler treated MOST of the Jewish very well would that offend you? How do you want to have a decent conversation when you have such a closed mind and are insulting to everyone in here? Have you ever been seperated from your family and homeland only to be beaten and raped and forced to work for nothing? When you have then maybe we can "TALK".

I don't know, slave treatment wasn't so good here in America. But definately, open, honest but respectful discussions need to happen more often. Some people say "It was in the past, it's over", but it wasn't a isolated event but a time period that has had an aftermath and we won't as people deal in a way that betters us until we communicate.
