Quite nice, actually. I've been there a couple of times. They've done a good job of reviving the historic district downtown, and turned it in a great place for music. You can hear bands playing at 2:30 on a Thursday afternoon there.

The Country Music Hall of Fame is well done, even for someone who wouldn't know Conway Twitty from k.d. lang. Ryman Auditorium hits some people like the baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown. Vanderbilt supplies some smarts and culture. The State Capitol is on a hill in the middle of downtown, overlooking everything.

It's not a huge city, but managable.
