What is one piece of advice that was one of the best you’ve ever received?

You really only get one shot at this life. There's no point standing at the pearly gates saying 'what if...' or 'I wish I...'. Take your chances to be happy, if it fails try again, try make the best life for yourself and you'll die knowing you've done the most you can -x-

I was given this poem by grandad when he was dying from cancer. I was a young boy and it made an impression I try to live according to the if rule.

If you find it difficult to decide whether or not an action is RiGHT. Ask yourself would my mother wish me to do this?
If the answer is, no, then don't do it.

OK I see the flaws in it but I still think it is good general advice, which came to me years apart from a Teacher I can not remember the context and a Priest of the Church of Rome during a general conversation
