my brother is going to be a senior and he is recieving offers from Boston College, Boston University, Saint Michaels College, Michigan, and a bunch of other schools. what i want to know is which one has a better hockey program. he wants to play in the NHL and his coaches say pospect for the draft, but his coaches say that if he goes to college first hell have more options and will be picked higher in the draft after he has college experience. His coaches say that out of all his offers he should seriousally consider BC, BU, Michigan, and St. Mikes. which college has a better program?

Your brother needs a better coach.

First of all, Most American players get drafted in high school nowadays. The only collegiate player taken in the first round this year was not eligible as a high schooler.

Second, Most of the players drafted out of US colleges these days are Canadians who chose not to play in their Tier 1 Junior A ranks.

Now, Boston College, Boston University, and the University of Michigan are all excellent schools for hockey. Boston College has had 37 players drafted, Boston University has had 51 players drafted, and Michigan has had 66 players drafted. He wouldn't go wrong if he went to any of them

Well, if he has an offer from any college team that has a strong hockey history then he has choices. If he is really as good as you're saying and then can go out a prove it in college hockey and get drafted then it's great. But he also needs to be be ready to play with a bunch of other guys that were all MVP at their own high schools. In my opinion I would say choose the school that is strong in Hockey and can give him a valuable degree that he can use in case hockey doesn't work out the way he wants it to. Out of the 3 you picked Michigan is certainly the higher ranked school.

Those are all fine choices and having to pick between them would be a pleasant problem to have. However, if I was in his shoes, I'd take BU. The tradition of excellence, the remarkable list of alums in the NHL, the Beanpot tourney and the opportunity to learn from Jack Parker would be hard to pass up.

In the interest of full disclosure, I should note that I'm from the east, went to school in Boston and have several friends who skated for BU, so I might be a touch biased.

I would easily say BU. They've had a program for a really long time, and every year they're great. Plus in 1980, does anybody remember what college most of the kids on the U.S. Olympic team played for? Minnesota and BU were where most of the kids came from. I would tell your brother to go with BU.

as a division 1 hockey player myself, I'd say if he didnt go to juniors and i already recieving offers from Hockey East and the CCHA thats unreal! Michigan is a program that garners a lot of great NHL players. the CCHA also has a lot of good teams to play against as well as last years champion. As much as I hate Michigan as I go to BGSU I'd say that would be number1. However, playing for Jerry York (BG old coach) in BC would be cool. Good luck and if he plays in the CCHA I'll look foreword to playing against him.

BU is a great school and has a great hockey program. There have been several NHLers that have attended BU and I bet you that they are all pretty smart guys.
