Japan lost a war, and you can't use them as a role model. And they are not a Democracy! We are not a Democracy and into the 5th year and 4,000 body bags, Iraq's government is in complete shambles!
Hpw long it will take depends on how long we are stupid enough to remain there!
Iraq is not a Democracy, there is no such thing as a Democracy and if there were it would be a total failure! That's why our forefathers wanted nothing to do with a democracy, choosing a Representative Republic instead!
The bottom line there is no military victory to be had in Iraq: we are killing Iraqis, the same people we were suppose to liberate, and we are in a middle of a sectarian war!
As we step up our efforts in Baghdad, they just spread out.! We have had 29 body bags in September, and we are not going to outlast the entire Middle East, which is the recruitment area of the insurgency!
Bush screwed up! He started a war based on lies that should not have happened! We should have NO body bags and over 1/2 million deaths in Iraq for 1 man and a few million gallons of oil. It doesn't help us, just corporate profit! When Bush was elected gas was $1.46 a gallon!
And George, please fund the VA Hospitals and take care of our wounded, rather than spend so much effort in trying to deny them the care that they earned. George, you have never been pro-troops, and it shows. starting with your weaseling out of the Vietnam war, and then deserting the National Guard! Your wrapping yourself in the flag and then screwing our troops is underwhelming!

If Bush is an Emperor, then what are you, daughter of Karl? Your emotions are obviously guiding this question. If you want to grow up and be a "big girl" then put your emotions aside. Otherwise, you will never make a difference, and much less, a contribution to society.
Now on to your democracy question. The best way to answer that is with a question. How long will it take for Bush or any other president to create an "enduring" theocracy in America? Democracy has about as much chance in Iraq as Born Again Christians have of creating a God Government in the United States. NONE You cannot force a way of life, either politically or socially on peoples that do not want what you're selling. Once America realizes that it cannot force the world to be like us, the world will be a better and safer place on which to live .

Iraq will cease to exist before that happens because there are lots of extremists who will fight and die for their beliefs.
Enough colonialism already when will The Bush Administration realize they are really stupid to force something upon people who will never accept it, and democracy isn't perfect either it has its draw-backs. I hate to say this but the best structured society according to Historian's was Hitler's dictatorship and if he hadn't been evil he could have had one of the best country's in the world
What if someone tried to make America a dictatorship ?
That would never happen and neither will Democracy be accepted in Iraq.
The determination of Iraqi extremists is so strong no amount of weapons could defeat Iraq without nuclear bombs just wiping out all life there.
Do you think it is right to force something on people who don't want it ? THIS IS THE REASON WHY THERE ARE SO MANY WARS and its wrong.

Well ours nearly ended in a civil war so it might take a while. A good reference for building one without hostile intervention would be Japan. With all of the out side agitators it might be a very long time. To me it is a good investment for our future and theirs. Now just because they adopt democracy does not mean they will make the right decisions either. Palestine is a democracy and I believe they learned a very valuable lesson just this year, that what sounds good at the time may kill you in the end. I don't look for Hammas to hold as much power after the next elections and as long as they continue the people will steadily make their true desires known. That would likely not be constant war with Israel. When people have not had choice in a long time they make foolish ones for a while. In the end it will be good for all concerned don't you think?

Bush has failed ,before he even sent the first patriot missiles in to destroy the scuds&hassun11 missles early in the gulf war.Iran is going to be big problem, they want nuc power...and more..the dems will be blaimed for everything,,meaning the failure of what Bushco started in afganistan&Iraq. I think if Bush bombs Iran now,,,before its to late,,then it would be ok in the long run,,,say next 30 years or so.as for true democracy enduring in Iraq,,,never,,,,no way.....controling the situation is what I was refering to. goodday supergirl chow freepress

This is so Viet Nam...We can't win a land war on someone else's turf...Bush will continue to try and "Liberate" Iraq until he is out of office...It's amazing that we can't defeat a bunch of radical terrorists who don't have air power, tanks, or any other military machinery. How is it that we defeated the German and Japanese armies in less time than it is taking to liberate Iraq?

President Bush.
And yes, he will be successful. Because defeatist like you will fail to force an American defeat. This isn't Vietnam.
As a bonus, we will even win the War on Terror.
The United States of America is the greatest nation this world has ever seen and will continue to be just that by standing on the principles of individual freedom and the core rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
Hope you're not melting.
