Something that represents your friendship , a memorabilia, like a picture of the 2 of you in a sporting event , fishing, etc.. something you both share of interest , a lucky cap, tickets to that game you both had a blast at!
Something that represents a shared experience or travel that will remind him of good times back home. If he is religious a bible with a verse that means something special to you or that you may want to express to him is great , he will need the spiritual support out there. (they sell little ones that even fit into the pocket). It's a great gesture of yours make sure its very personal , it makes the meaning all that more special , it doesn;t need to be anything elaborate to be special!!!

I think something that's memorable and will give him a piece of home when he's homesick is a photo album that goes all the way back to when you first met and has pictures of fun things you did, or what I'm getting for someone close to me that's leaving for college is a Digital Picture Frame. You could put all the pictures you want in it and he'll be able to update it and it'll be easy to pack. God Bless Your Friend!!

something that's urs. that u really like, and want him to remember u by. since ure a guy u shouldn't have anything girly. so its not a problem. it can be a favorite jersey,or (if u ever played a sport), or a watch, a chain. try having something engraved in it,
