The unemployment figures are majorly misreported because they don't include the many people not collecting unemployment or the people that have lost unemployment for being on it too long. Many people have that same attitude with which your carrying around. With so much lying and corruption in our government, it's no surprise. We've been mislead and will continue to be.

Depends on what you call "believe". I believe that unemployment figures do not necessarily reflect the actual unemployment in general. But that interpretation is subject to what each person perceives the definition of unemployment rate to be. But the real use for the figure is in comparing one period of time to another. Since the same criteria has been used for decades, it's a good indicator of what's happening now as opposed to say ten or twenty years ago. We are at 4.6 percent unemployment at the moment with about 3 million people unemployed. That's only one percent of the population so you can see how it depends on how you calculate unemployment. But using the same criteria that came up with the 4.6 percent figure, it wasn't long ago that 6 percent was considered full employment. So we're doing quite well now. Of course if you're out of work it's difficult to accept that I'm sure.

if you are not actively looking for work, then you are not counted as unemployed.

that you dislike the wages being offered does not matter.

as to illegal aliens being hired in preference to Americans [I assume you're an American -- you sound like one], write to your Congressperson and Senators. Congress is why we don't have working enforcement mechanisms to keep illegal immigrants out of the work force.

The employment figures are correct, they take many factors and industries into account, not just low end jobs.

Sorry you're so cynical.

Do you work?

No. I believe they are understated. They only count new claims filed each month. Wonder what hole the rest of us are suppose to fall into.
