Hi,
Every child I know has loved having an adult reading them a bed-time story. They’ve just got to be good for a number of reasons. It provides the excuse for child and parent/adult to spend quiet, quality moments with each other at the end of the day. It gives child/parent a chance to talk if, for instance, the story might bring up questions in the child’s mind they need answers to. Regular bed-time stories might make up a part of a child’s routine and routine is so important for children (at least my belief and experience, some might argue!) A story will help calm the child. Reading out loud helps a child with their reading. The child might be encouraged to read some of the words themselves or to discuss the pictures. A nice story might induce pleasant dreams!

It's not the bedtime story that puts children to sleep. It is the comforting sound of the parents' voice while telling the story that lulls them into sleep.

Depends on how old you are. The Arabian Nights series of tales were all good bedtime stories - they kept the teller alive!

The purpose is to think of happy thoughts before you dream. What puts you to sleep is it being read to you in a soothing monotonous voice. No one will fall asleep if you scream the story.

The story itself is not meant to put you to sleep. If someone is reading to you, it's the voice that lulls you to sleep.
If you are reading to yourself, it's the quiet space you're in and that you are being soothed by the repetition of eye movement. Your mind is off your daily woes and into the story.

sometimes it's the reader who reads it makes it sound boring. It's not the story fault.
