Magick is not black or white, it just is. It's like electricity. It can be wonderfully helpful, or it can kill you. It's how it is used that makes it positive or negative.

Generally, what is termed "black magick" is anything that interferes with another person's free will. So many many things fall into that definition of black magick. In that broad definition love magick (when used to manipulate a specific person), and domination magick (getting the boss to promote you when generally you don't get along, making someone bend to your Will) would count as black magick.

Black magick could be limited to magick that causes specific malicious harm to someone. So anything causing emotional, mental, spiritual, or physical distress of any kind would fall under that definition.

However, in some cultures, black magick is only malicious magick that is cast without just cause. For instance, a killing spell would be justified if it was cast against someone who raped your wife/girlfriend/sister/daughter, etc. But jinxing someone who simply rubbed you the wrong way would be black magick.

Ethics are a very personal thing and one that everyone - and especially any magickal practitioner - should think long and hard about before beginning to cast anything.

I agree with the above answer - I don't think that there's a line between 'black' and 'white' magic. Magic as energywork is just that - energy. It is neither good nor bad. It all depends on the intent.

Sometimes even what could seem like a "white" act could have a malicious act which would make it negative. For example, if I did ritual work toward helping my ex heal from his issues so that he can go back to work and I can get more money in child support - well I would consider that negative since I'm doing it expecting something good to come to ME.

Magic, IMO, requires someone to set aside their own selfish reasons and instead concentrate on the greater good. In my case, I've almost completely stopped energy work with "X Result" in mind because I recognize that I don't know that 'X result' is the best possible one out there.

Like the answers above me, I agree in the fact that their is no "Black" or "White" magic. Energy is Energy and depends on the witches morals and intent. The way you use magic is up to you, you don't need objects if you already have a trained mind for focusing your energy. The objects of wands, candles, ect. is simply to help the witch focus.
I would check out some of Scott Cunningham's books before you try anything. Try the Solitary Practitioner, I think it will help you. Here is the amazon link to read about it:

true magick is neither black nor white, it is in the heart of the mage or the witch. Magick has a direct link to nature and the emotions, it is both because nature is good and bad, cruel and kind, nurturing and devastating. It depends on the mage or witch and how they use the craft, if they use the craft for malice, the magick is not "black", the mages personality and will is. I think magick is grey, like life, you can' really seperatr moral goods and bads, they are in essence apart of each other, like yin and yang.

There is no such thing as black or white magic it is all the same thing...... And anyone that tells you different does not have real magic within them........ And the same magic that can be used to tear down a building can also be used to build one..... That black and white magic was built on the back of racism... You know it sadden me that people do not read much of anything any more or the average person would know all about how true my statement is.......................................................

You can use magick for almost anything- it's the intent of the user.

Candles, incense, tools, music, rituals, etc., are used to focus your thoughts and energy and manifest your desires into your reality. Once you've practiced enough and know what you're doing, you can choose not to use these tools of focus.

In my beliefs there is no definition between black and white magic. It is just magic. What you do with it and how YOU view it determines whether it is has the stigma of good or bad.

magic becomes black when you use it to interfere in the lives and happiness of others, to suit your own desires.

magic is all intent. if your intent is to help someone, then most likely what you are doing is ok. as long as your help is not harming someone else. or being forced onsomeone that does not want it.

There is no black or white magick. Only the person's intent can be classified as "good/white or evil/black". Magick is fed by ones emotions. Always be in control of your emotions.

The line is so thin between black and white that it's easy to fall on either side and know where one starts and where one stops. Too easy to be safe.
