Personally I think that alot of the verbal attacks that Putin has directed at America lately have alot more to do with him needing to appear tough in his country (where there is a great deal of social and political unrest due to the state of their economy) than with Putin's confusion about what is actually going on in the world today.
Terrorist attacks haven't just struck the U.S. They have also occured all over the middle east (Saudi Arabia just arrested several people right before they attacked there), and in the indipacifc (Sri Lanka for instance with the Tamil Tigers) and all over Europe (against our allies), and all over Africa (including Egypt). Their are approximately 193 countries in the world, and we have to be concerned about several of them, a fraction of the total mind you, but concerned non-the-less.
We put in defensive technology in eastern Europe, which was not directed at Russia, currently still our "friend", at all. It was directed at protecting our many other friends in Europe from aggression from Iran, North Korea, Syria, and other terrorist states (some of which Russia sells weapons and nuclear technology to) that are working day and night to develop weapons to attack anyone who disagrees with them &/or gets in their way.
Putin has a tough job trying to keep one of the world's largest countries by both population and land mass together with little more than spit and ducttape. And so he needs to demonstrate that he is standing up against us so that he is not dragged from power by communist hardlines who are still present throughout his country. But everyone should choose their battles, and Putin has a daily threat from Chechin rebels and other "terrorists" who may turn on him any day now so he should know better than come after us on this issue, because our efforts against terrorism defends him just as much as it defends us.
Certainly our President, who is a terrible public speaker, can do alot more to explain why we are doing what we are doing so that it doesn't make the rest of the world fear that our country is being led by an out of control cowboy. But even if he continues doing a terrible job explaining things, it doesn't limit our right and responsibility to protect ourselves and our friends from other countries whose public speakers say everyday on their government controlled TV and Radio stations that they won't rest until they completely destroy our country and everything it stands for.

Putin is aggressive, but no more so than Bush - both are guilty of pandering to the electorate by declaring themselves "war presidents" or something equally as silly. Both are conducting bloody and unnecessary campaigns which they seem to be losing. On the subject of spy planes, well, the US has more spy planes and satellites than all the other countries in the world put together, so I'm not sure they can complain too much.

He dislikes the US's attempts to get Russia's nearby former Soviet Republics to move towards democracy, such as the Ukraine's Orange Revolution or Uzbeckistan's Tulip Revolution that have gained power by peacefully ousting their leaders and changing the faces of their governments.
Putin sees this as Russia losing its grip on these territories that some in Russia see as still Russia and is absolutely pissed about it to say the least.

some things never change. it seems that Putin doesn't trust U.S.A and has sent spy planes over to test the defence system. He wants to make sure that what is left of Russia will be safe.

huh. sounds as likely as when they said that there were spy devices inside of canadian coins. it takes two to tango. Bush was the one originally spouting Cold War rhetoric. Putin simply refused to go along with it. And now, typically, our administration is making him out to be the bad guy. No country wants to be bullied -- by US.

Very good news indeed. We need a nuclear war to sort out this planet once and for all!! Start with the Middle East then Clear of all baboons in Africa then bomb some Eastern Europeans and Turkish. then bomb Pakistan and south America and then we are left with:
North America
Western Europeans
Chinese
Indians
What a beautiful place this world would be with no refugees and asylum seekers!!
