the sattelite pictures aren't up to date.. is there a way to update them?

The images are anything between 3 and 5 years old. You can't do anything about that.
My guess is that they are not updating them due to security reasons.

Can't you add a link to a local image you have on your hard disk or a server where you are hosting the image? I don't use GE all that often but I know you can load images into it.

If you mean to update the ones provided by Google, good luck. I'm guessing that they pay a fee to some image provider and get periodic updates. Updating the content of the globe is supposedly time consuming too.

not all 2009 maps are on there yet ninety 9% of them are nevertheless 2007 and 2005 google earth updates directly there on basically putting on the digital camera photos as long as your internet is on whilst u open google earth it could replace in the present day away

Of course the images ain't up to date, it's not a live satellite, but cached images.

And unless your have your own russian spy satellite you can't update them.
