I have an open mind, but this is AMERICA & we're used to being spoiled: We have some of the WORLD's best, best looking, & most talented journalists , w/in our shores, & shown that we'll go beyond, to recruit 1's w/ any OR all of the above.
I liked Jennings, Rather, & Brokaw. Losing them all, around the same time, was devastating to the American news-front; they seemed credible as our nightly truth-tellers, & I don't mind admitting that I found them all good looking.
Couric, Gibson, & Nightline did that re-formatting w/ the likes of that Bashear character (a Geraldo ripoff), made me wonder -WHAT were the networks thinking? Couric looks like a member of "The Sunshine Family" doll set & for some reason reminds me of the original "Stepford Wives" -something about that glint in the eyes, and she's fluff central, I don't take her seriously; Gibson has that overhanging forehead thing going on, & just seems Goofy; & Nightline might as well be CUT. Muir, Miller, Mitchell, Vieira, O.K.???

ABC stands for Always Biased Crap.

They had to Replace Peter Jennings he is dead.

Charlie Gibson is even more liberally biased than Jennings was if that's possibly.

I want to thank Peter Jennings and Dan Rather their liberal bias persuaded me not to go into broadcasting because it's almost like being a lawyer anymore.

If nothing else, it takes time to get used to anchors. We often need a crisis or two, or at least an election, to see them at their best.

You are right in saying we had a great trio at one point in Jennings, Brokaw and Rather. They all had excellent credentials and knew their stuff. It takes time to get used to the new faces; TV viewers don't like to see such massive changes.

Charles Gibson is a familar presence through his morning work, and comes across with credibility. That's probably why ABC is number one. Brian Williams is a smart, sharp person and he'll do fine. Katie Couric has had trouble, in part because CBS has struggled in the past few years. We'll have to see how she adapts long-term.

One rule of thumb: good reporters are the backbone of good news broadcasts. A news division is as only as good as its bench. CBS had some great people behind Cronkite in his heyday. ABC had a ton of talent with Jennings and Brinkley.

Consider this. All of the news anchors you listed belong to the same trade union as Jay Leno and David Letterman. The same holds true for the anchors on the cable news operations. At least the British use the correct term for them. They are "presenters" or "readers". That's all they do!
