The maxi-pad route is good. You will stop bleeding in about four days. The duct tape is bad, even if you shave your wet spot. I'd go with regular packing tape since it don't leave the sticky residue. The "ace" bandage thing is a good idea, but you'll ruin it if you don't change your pad enough. You may "spot" that ace bandage and need to buy a new one. No sense in blowing the dough when you need bike repairs.

Ride safe in the future, dude. Them maxi's can get expensive. By the way, you got the rash now. You are officially a biker, and bikers don't need no stinkin' neosporin. The beer that caused the accident will kill the germs. Great question, had some fun answering it. Wind in the face, bugs in the teeth. Ride on, dude, ride on!

P.S. I would like to apoligize in advance if I have offended anyone by using the items out of context. Riding is fun, Yahoo! is fun. Funny answers are good. "Why can't we all just get along"! (And again. my apology for stealing that line.)

The pad is not a bad idea. Those and disposable diapers are in many trauma kits. Don't use Duct tape. In the same aisle as the ace bandage (good idea) there is also what they call "conformal wrap". It's a thin stretchy fabric-like stuff that sticks to itself. It's made for exactly what you want. One major brand is Kling, they call theirs Kling-wrap.

Neosporin or triple antibiotic ointment or Bacitracin, but only once a day, no more than a week. Bacitracin can give some nasty allergic reactions with extended use. (a lot of antibiotics do)

The only danger is when you ask the woman if she could spare a maxi pad. Other than that pulling the duct tape off once it heals is gonna hurt like a bi*tch

Don't use the duct tape.
You want air to be able to reach the injury.
Maxi pads are not sterile. 4 x 4 medical gauze pads are better, even if you have to stack up several.
Do use an ace bandage or an old sock, (Clean please), with the toe cut off.
Do use antibiotic ointment.
If there is sign of infection, don't wait, get to a doctor.
Do wear leather or cordovan and be more careful next time.
Best of luck.

Hi Chris,

Duct tape is all that's holding most of my house (and life) together!

Give it a go (if you're skint and thats what you've got to hand) but be prepared for tears when you rip that mother off! Don't use too much!

Use an ace bandage and not duct tape. The ace bandage has a metal clamp thingie to hold it. No sticking to your arm hairs...
and what they said about neosporin too.

Yes! get gauze and ace bandage from Kroger's or CVS and use an ace bandage to keep the germs out. Change the gauze once or twice a day and clean if necessary with water or peroxide.

Your silly, Wash and scrub all the dirt and rocks out of it, put some antibiotic gel or cream on it ....and let it air dry to a scab. That way by Monday you can begin to start picking at it.
Good Luck - Oh, Tuff Guys don't wear bandaids.

all i can say is at least shave the hair off your arm first...why not go to walmart and buy gauze and some surgical tape??? This way you dont have to listen to your friend hassle you about the maxi pad...

I would also high recommend putting neosporin on the pavement burns for a week or so to prevent infection. then put on the gauze, wrapped on with ace bandage...

been there done that too many times to count from back in the day... and trust me, you don't want to get it infected!!!!!!
