yeah is the same here.

It's not their money but I think the employees are being watch but the managers (the have been told how to run the business)

I used to worked at a cafe, and they had this combos with a sandwich and chips, the owner told us that we were only allow to put 5 chips max on each plate.... but he did charge quite a difference for only the sandwich or the combo, now that is a cheap bastard !!

well, not that I agree with it but I do understand. what I used to show employees was if they took 1 chicken tender a day which doesn't sound like much right.....well at 13 cents a nugget with an average of 40 employees per store that equals $5.20 a day....and $1898.00 a year for one store. still not much right now take into account that after paying for the food delivery, employees, gas and electric, rent, building maintenance, taxes on average a store makes a profit of about 9% a year if they are lucky, now say the store makes about $3500.00 in sales a day the profit is about 350.000 so it will take one week of sales to make up for employees eating a chicken nugget a day. that does not include other food they may take. so with a case of ketchup packets costing $85 if I can save about 2 cases worth a month by just asking how many you would like, it could save my business. this is why 80% of restraunts fail in the first 3 years because of the small things that cut into business. sorry if this sounds rude or harsh but I didn't learn this lesson until I lost everything I had trying to keep my restraunt open.

In Alaska, some of the McDonalds will give you all the sauces you want and some of them have a sign saying there will be a charge for extra packs of condiments. I don't eat at McDs that often but have taken my nieces there. One of the girls never gets enough dipping sauce for her chicken nuggets.

Yes Subway gives only one napkin here but will give you a lot more if you ask.

I don't know about Wendy's; we have two in Anchorage but they are not on my side of town.

It does add up. It is called food cost. If there was not a set formula then employees would just give whatever they felt like. After all, restaurants are in the business to make money. Just think of the restaurant like it was your household. How would you like it if everyone in your family used a 1/2 bottle of ketchup for every meal or used 10 napkins. You would be like "whoa! hold on, that stuff costs money, what do you think I am made of money and money grows on trees!" But when it is a restaurant doing it you call them cheapskates.

Yep-seems cheap, but it is their money, and shareholders money. They have certainly done market studies showing where to cut costs, and keep profit margins up. They keep from raising the over-all cost of food by charging extra for those little extras. It's just the way the corporate world works. One of the justifications for not giving out more napkins/ketchup packets is the waste involved-people throw extra napkins/ketchup packets away.
