Let him think he's winning for now and then snipe him at the end with a few seconds left. In the future it can be cheaper to forget about bidding it up and up and just bid your maximum at the end. And with proxy bidding, you can just bid the highest amount you're willing to pay and wait for it to be bid up to that amount

Don't ever bother bidding until the very last second. About 30 seconds to a minute before the auction ends, make a bid that's a bit higher than the current bid. I've never lost an auction this way.

Definitely just by going on about five minutes before the end of the auction, making a bid, and then checking again at like 1 minute, and then 30 or 15 seconds. Make sure you allow enough time for your computer to send your bid if you're cutting it close.

The idea of bidding is that the person who is willing to pay the most, gets it. So you just need to bid more. If you're not willing to do this you probably won't get it. But waiting until the last second will give you a better chance of getting if for less than the other person is willing to go.

NEVER bid on an item until about a minute left in the auction. Depending on your Internet connection (cable is recommended). The seller could have another bidder purposely upping the bid so he gets more money out of you. It's happened to me a couple of times and then I finally caught on.

eBay isn't what it's cracked up to be.
But you could try "Fat Fingers" to improve your chances.
Some people will pay way over the odds because they love the rush of winning a bid - don't fall into THAT trap.

Before you pay more than you intended, do a Google Product Search and see what you should really be paying.

Bid late, bid high. I tend to bid with three seconds left on the auction. Rarely lose!
