I was just curious who owns these major sporting leagues like the NFL, NBA, and MLB. I know the NFL just got a new commissioner, but I don't think he owns the league.

None of the major sports leagues are owned by a single entity - the NHL, MLB, NBA and NFL. Each is comprised of a group of team owners, who effectively operate as the stakeholders of a corporation.
The commissioners in each league are really there to act in the best interests of both the game and the owners, but they are just employees.

Nobody owns the leagues. People own the particular teams in each league, and they vote on a commissioner to run the league.
