First off, wash smaller loads. When you overload a machine, nothing gets really clean because there's no agitation.

Second, instead of bleach, add a cup of Borax.

If that doesn't help, go the bleach route again, with the smaller load. Always add a cup of white vinegar to your first rinse to be sure all the soap is removed.

BTW, certain fabrics will discolor in bleach. I've found my antron panties look dingy if I accidentally put them in with my hubby's underwear and bleach.

Fresher Looking Whites
You should be able to restore your clothes to white (and not damage the fibres of the fabric) by soaking them them in lukewarm water and color safe or oxygen bleach for 24 hours, then rinse them with vinegar and water. Use one tablespoon of vinegar to one quart of water. Your clothes may be turning gray because you have hard water, and this diminishes the effectiveness of detergents, and often leaves a residue on clothing. If you think this is a case, you may want to add a powdered water softener to your wash, particularly when washing white clothes.:)

Be sure you are using the correct amount of bleach, people tend to not measure and they don't use enough, also I believe that there is a difference in brands. I only use clorox. May your whites be whiter.

I add a couple of drops of Mrs Stewart's bluing for extra whiteness to get my whites eye popping . Works every time. I also add 2/3 cup of borax along with the regular detergent.

Depending on the material you can wash your whites in Hot/Warm cycle I usually soak my whites in laundry soap and about 1/2C. baking soda.. I also use the extra rinse cycle to get all the soap out.. Good luck
