I have a free event that I will be promoting. I would like to get press releases out there.

Any tips on getting it noticed? Any tips on writing one that will get the message out there?

Keep it simple. Get all the facts out there -- who, what, where, when, how. I've seen many events' releases where the date wasn't listed. Ugh. You are inviting a trip to the waste basket when you do that. Give a contact person with phone number for questions. If you can find a specific person for mailing purposes, great, but it's not absolutely necessary.

And remember the one cardinal rule of writing: people who don't know when to use its or it's can't be trusted. So write it as if it were headed for print (which in the case of a pennysaver, it might be).
