The patriot act is designed to increase the government control.The plan was on the shelf and 9/11 was the perfect opportunity for the NEOCONS to push it through.The name is a joke but almost no one dared to vote against it at that time right after the attacks because of that name. "If fascism came to America it would be on a program of Americanism."

Lordy, people. The Patriot Act (surely the greatest contradiction in terms in US history) is pushing you towards some sort of Orwellian nightmare.
Bush and his cronies appear to have either ignored or side-stepped it whenever it became an inconvenience in their lust for profit.
Correct me if i'm wrong but didn't you fight a war against my country (Britain) so you could have your freedom and this very constitution. It now appears that you're involved in another that is rapidly eroding both.
Makes us wonder why we didn't finish the job in 1812.
As history has shown us time and again the greatest threat to democracy is never the people, but rather the unbridled power the state wields over its citizens and it is always in the name of preservation. Such as
