Well, I have a colleague... maybe he is ill, but nobody wants to be in the same room...

Bit is it just disgusting or is it harmful to inhale?

LOL, yes they're just disgusting. The gas released is Methane. I believe that you would be harmed if there was an extremely excessive ammount of it in the air, something like 50% of the air, but that's unlikely to result from bodily functions.

So, no, it's not dangerous, just gross.

But you friend may have some digestive problem. Such as being lactose intolerant.

I don't think they're really harmful. They contain varying levels of oxygen, nitrogen, bacterial by-products, methane and sulfur. But they're in small amounts, so they just smell really bad.

Here's an excellent website about farts:

There are a bunch of questions with answers. Perhaps you can talk to your colleague about what he eats, or get him to buy the "Fartypants" pants.

Good luck! Keep some coffee beans around to help absorb the smell.

Farts are nothing but gaseous byproducts of human digestive activity. The bad smell is due to gases like Hydrogen sulphide (H2S). The gas is neither noxious nor allergic. It has no side effect on other people's health though.

well no farts are not harmful to your health, maybe to the nose but, they are a way of relesing carbondeoxide from your body, just dont stick a lighter to his rear

Yes and no. Farts contain noxious sulfur compounds that could kill, and of course, methane and CO2. All can kill humans, but no single human could produce enough fart in a month STRAIGHT to kill a human (that is, if you seal a room and collect the fart).

im sure people have been breathing in their own farts for hundreds of years, so far ive never heard of anyone dying from a toxic fart...........unless it got compacted and blew their head off or something...........you are a sad individual, dont you have anything better to think about then poisonous flatulence

Yes, they do have toxic elements, but think it through:
The gas origionated internally, surrounded by absorbent membrane.
Do you really think it could harm you diluted in air?

farts are better out than in... yes it is somewhat toxic but it wont harm you by breathing it in or anything... worst comes to worst you breath it out our you body expels of it through waste, sweating, breathing .. whatever
