here ya go. It was a book turned into a movie. The cast included Marie-France Pisier, John Beck, Susan Sarandon, and Josette Banzet.
[edit] Plot summary
The story centers on an enchanting French actress, Noelle Page, who journeys from the ugly fishing town of Marseilles to glory. On the other side of the globe, Catherine Alexander, a beautiful young woman, struggles in Chicago for recognition and success. American war time pilot Larry Douglas is a typical playboy from the States, trotting around the globe sweeping women off their feet. The story follows these three people,Larry first cheats Noelle and then marries Catherine. The story is all about how Noelle works up to take revenge but ultimately what wins is her love for Larry and her life is shattered. Constantin Demiris is a Greek tycoon, who does not forgive and forget. He controls the lives of the other three characters in a most unexpected manner, twisting the plot to a stunning finish.
[edit] The Star Wars Connection
The 1977 film that was based on the novel The Other Side of Midnight was heavily promoted by 20th Century-Fox. Since the book was very successful, anticipation was that that would translate to success at the box office. Another film the studio was promoting at the same time was Star Wars, a film that was considered controversial within the studio for its growing expense. Fearing that Star Wars would be a flop, the studio made a preemptory decision to grant prints of The Other Side of Midnight only to those theaters that agreed to book Star Wars as well.
Ultimately, however, it was The Other Side of Midnight that proved to be the box office disaster. Star Wars ultimately grossed a then-record $237m in North America in its first run.

Technically speaking, either yesterday evening, last night, or tomorrow morning, before or after dawn.
I would think that whether you were closer to midnight before this moment or closer to midnight tonight would make the difference in some one's reply.
If you were to interpret the question as "What is diametrically or symmetrically opposed to midnight?" then the answer is noon. However, that is not what the question was.
If you had capitalized as in The Other Side of Midnight, then indeed we might think the answer is that cheap romance paperback by Sidney Sheldon.
