When you get a positive result has nothing to do with when your period is due. There is an assumption that women ovulate 14 days before the start of their next period, but this is just an estimation and can vary greatly between individuals and in one women from month to month.

After ovulation it takes about 6-12 days for the egg to implant. As little as 24 hours after implantation you can get a positive result from a blood test. A urine test generally takes about 48 hours to show a positive result (depending on the sensitivity).

So even assuming that you *did* ovulate 14 days before your period was due some women you could test positive with a urine test as soon as 6 days before your expected period or not until your period is due. If you ovulated later it would be longer before you would get a result.

Many women experience bleeding in early pregnancy, it isn't really a "period" but it can have just as much blood as one, but generally it is lighter.

good luck!

A blood test is more accurate than a HPT. The pee test only checks for HCG in the urine; it's more accurate to check for it in the blood. The HCG in urine can be difficult to detect early on, but if it's in the blood, they'll find it. I think a blood test can detect a pregnancy a few days before the missed period, but I'm not sure. A few days after the missed period, the HPT should come out positive, and a blood test is usually done for the doctor to confirm it.

The "unusual period" that your friend had was actually implantation bleeding. It's NOT really a trure period, but there is a little blood.

There are some women who continue to have their monthly period throughout their pregnancies. It's pretty rare, but I've heard of it happening.

The day after implantation (which is about a week before your missed period) a blood test will detect the rise in the HCG hormone. Most doctors wont order tests this early because about 50% of fertilized eggs will not implant correclty and will miscarry before your period is due. I used a very sensitive test that I bought in-line and got a very faint positive 7 days past ovulation. My doctor wouldn't see for another week to do a blood test because of this. I was so scared for the next few days knowing I only had a 50/50 chance. This time around I waited for my missed period.

Just ignore that....if you call the doctor he's just going to tell you to wait till after you've missed your period. And the reason for that is because of the high rate for miscarriage. But its not considered a miscarriage because the fertilized egg may never have attached, therefore just flushed away with your period.
Those stupid commercials say that they can detect 5 days before your period are just making life miserable for everyone because they aren't necessarily accurate because even if it did detect the hormonal surge with pregnancy, and gave a positive result, it doesn't mean that you will sustain the pregnancy.

I took me a month to find out I had my period November of last year and missed my period the next month which was December, My period was late by about 2-3days and I took a home pregnancy test, I went for the digital one but as long as its an ept or first response its ok. It gave me a positve so I would say over all it takes about a month to find out, it also depends on youre cycle too, if you are regular periods, or irregular periods.

A blood test is more accurate early on but a pee test will give you the same results. Most doctors just do a pee test.
