Hi Gang - I need a way to stiffen ribbon, but I want it not to move after I'm done!

I've used a dozen different liquid stiffeners and they just don't get it as hard as I like. Some do work well, but they are thick like Elmer's Glue and leave the ribbon dull, without the bright color that existed before. Also, most are white and leave white flakes on the ribbon.

Any suggestions? I need something that dries clear (can also dry with a bit of a sheen), but not dullen or change the color of the fabric.

Would love any suggestions or help!

For stiffening rope they often use wood-glue, the kind that is white when you apply it and dries up clear.
You can mix it with water till it is thin enough to apply.
I would first try with 1 part glue on 5 parts water, but you may need more glue, it can be 5 part glue on 1 part water.
The colour may change a little, and the shine can change even more, so you need to test it.

i see you have tried elmers glue, have you tried PVA glue,

or anothe idea would be to try a fabric stiffener spray, people use this to make the fabric stiff before they make roller blinds, a haberdashers or fabric shop will probably have it

best wishes

Go to a paint store and buy spray paint that makes the color stand out and when it dries just put more coats on it. IT works trust me.

Have you tried and clear super glue tubs. Also I think that Gorilla glue comes in clear and that might help.

you glue or sew thin strips of plastic between 2 strips of ribbon. O I would suggest resin - same thing they use for false nails, surfboards, cars, etc. It'll be still as a board and will dry clear and can be buffed to a shine.

Why not buy the ribbon with the wire in it. It stays in shape

First off, are you certain it is a snake? I mean a real snake? Snakes are always tense, or so it seems to me. I don't think snakes really like much other than food and heat.
