We are not a pure capitalist economy. The federal government does regulate business to varying degrees.

Fact is that this country was founded upon the basics of capitalism. What has happened over the years is that many of the elites and elite wantabees not getting the recognition for feeling for those who didn't have as much. Problem is that those elites and wantabees never really did anything for the lesser classes. So what they came up with was a way to take from those who actually have and give it to those who don't have. Now that doesn't mean that those elites and wantabees were ever really forced to give. Hence, you have developed a socialist atmosphere in a capitalistic society. If you practice capitalism, you are penalized by the elites. If you practice socialism, you never move past the level the elites allow you to move.
Personally, I believe that when the 2 face off with each other, capitalism will win every time. No one can deny their human instinct to better themselves.

The USA is more Capitalist than Solialist. This is not a surprize the job of the government is to protect the people at large. Many thing that mean protecting big bussiness, so that they continue to pay works wages that are then taxed to run the county. Other think that big bussiness will continue to pay wages even if they have to pay there fair share of taxes. Personel I think that if you made them pay the total tax for the county you would still have them here, becuase this is were the money is we buy the most at the highest p[rices so were are they going to go. Now you say they'll move there jobs elsewhere and pay lower wages. Question when the world is making 2 dallor an hour who's buying the 60,000 cars answer no one. It is simple math.

It's a capitalist nation. However, during the period of the Great Depression, we put onto the law books all but two of the planks in the platform for the Socialist Party in 1924.
What Kennedy said was something he plagarized from the stone arch above the entrance to the administrative building at Choate Academy: "Ask not what your school can do for you, ask what you can do for your school".
Don't blame "liberals". It's a badly applied name. The ones your are referring to are "Statists". They believe in the ever-encroaching power of the State. The father of the liberal political movement was a British statesman named Edmund Burke. He once said: "All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing". I wonder how he would feel about modern-day "liberals" and their views on this war?

In rebuilding the family's foundation, I'd surely want to include some brothers and sisters as building blocks. Hopefully, there would be at least two offspring so they could team to share their toys, teachers, communicable diseases and inner-most thoughts. Siblings simply can't be beat as teachers for life's most important lessons: Knock first. Clean up your own mess. Pass the gravy, please. It's always your turn to do the dishes. And family pride and respect are the best hand-me-downs.
As they've been known to do on occasion, brothers and sisters will no doubt combat, compete, compromise and tattle-tale over trivial things. And hopefully, those things not so trifling: like a brother hanging with the wrong crowd or a sister doing drugs. Sure, they can be annoying at times, but siblings guarantee two things in life: a high phone bill and a friend forever.
No family would be complete without a full complement of supporting players: grandparents to spoil the children rotten, cousins to take the place of gang members, and plenty of aunts and uncles who enjoy sitting at the folding table with the little tykes for Sunday dinners or holidays. Is there anything better than a family that's all wrapped up with one another on Christmas Day? What's the point of having a sap in the family tree or a doting aunt if they are recognized only for traveling the farthest distance to the family reunion or by their name badge?
Want to live in a better world? Then remember this: Family matters.

This IS a CAPITALIST NATION and should NEVER be a SOCIALIST NATION!! Everyone
should get out there and help defend this great country against all enemies foreign or domestic
and WORK instead of sitting around worrying
about their lot in life and better themselves and
not depend on the government to bail them out.

Looks like some of the shampoo went to your brain. We are a corporate nation. Everything is now run by them. The constitution and bill of rights is now just pieces of paper. Congress is run by lobbyists and what you want doesn't mean squat. So socialist or capitalist doesn't matter, the outcome will be the same. Next step is North American Union and the super highway. Your happiness will be dependent on your willingness to kiss enough *** to remain on the top of the food chain and nothing to do with individual pursuit. Have a nice day!

a wonderful line of answers here. Study them with glee!
On the one hand you are supposed to be having this righty all uptight about socialism. Then the answers come spinning in, like barf on a plate... socialism, democracy, whipped cream,. car polish...
The questioner is either really concerned about socialism, or perhaps something else. We must wonder. In the second paragraph, which is always the place to look for true madness, this person suggests that the problem with these
Liberals is that they "SIT BACK AND WAIT FOR SOMEONE ELSE TO PURSUE YOUR happiness..." Whatever in wonderland that means.
Next he claims these liberals (What do they look like? Are they small hairless gerbils? Do they bow before Baal? They are evil, of this I am sure by now.) anyway, these liberals are not COMPREHENDING the words of JFK, (re: notaskself/ask/what/self/country)...
I envision a meadow where some aging hippies have gathered and they are having a grok session on the subject of where they were the minute Kennedy died...
I love answers.
Thanks, whatever your name is. You have enlightened this poor soul..

America has a mixed economy, with both market (Capitalist) and command (socialist) aspects. For instance, government programs like social security and public education are socialist. Other institutions, like the stock market, are undeniably capitalist.
Most markets and industries are regulated, but few are nationalized, so while socialist leanings are definite and pervasive, it would not be unfair to characterize America as more Capitalist than Socialist.

This country was build and developed by capitalists and hard work. We are NOT a socialist nation and will hopefully never become one.
How sad it would be to wake up one day and discover that we've become a fully-blown Nanny State, dependent upon the government for all of our needs.
